backpain is hard...and you probably dont have insurance so probably it's going to hurt like hell for awhile. the best thing to do is buy a heating pad or make one. and im a big fan of those patches that stay heated and that have like icy hot on them or something. other than that distraction and taking it easy is the best you can do....
i suppose lidocaine patches are only prescription? i knew *this guy* once whose chronic back pain was so bad he was on prescribed narcotics. as in methodone. as in regularly. ahem. so anyway, the only thing that helped enough to make it possible for him to decrease his narcotic intake was lidocaine patches, but again, they're probably only Rx. still, i second the icy-hot suggestion. or i don't know if you've tried topical analgesics like tiger balm? that helps me for joint pain.
If I were you, I'd find someone who knows someone who knows someone who is a physical therapist. Taking pain killers is such a wonderful habit to be starting and all, but in reality, you probably lifted something wrong or whatever and after spending 3-4 nights in a house with a physical therapist, I am all over the benefits of such work. It's like, this is how your skeleton and muscles work, you've been doing this which messes with either your muscles or skeleton and this has caused tension here (then you gasp and cringe in pain while you want to fall to the floor) and then they tell you how to correct it and push those points that killed you earlier except it doesn't hurt anymore.
But regardless of what you do, I hope it gets better soon so you don't have to look like an old man. That's frustrating.
