I love Studio 60 and a few weeks ago when they were talking about cancelling it I was just about heart broken. I think it's the only new show I started watching and liked this season.
Granted some of the criticisms are true I still think it's intelligent and humorous and worthy of my attention.
Also, Aaron Sorkin doesn't write the comedy parts. I've been led to believe that Mark McKinney (Kids in the Hall, Slings and Arrows) does. He just got a character role as well.
I don't find it so bad.. furthermore having it actually be funny funny would take away from the premise of the actual show, which is the lives of the characters behind the sceens.
I highly recommend watching Slings and Arrows if you can get your hands on it. It's a Canadian show but the first, and possibly the 2nd seasons have recently come out on DVD so you maybe able to find them online.
My feelings on the comedy not being funny are that, because the ideas for the sketches are so funny but the actual sketches are so unfunny, Aaron Sorkin may just not be able to write sketch comedy very well. If you really look at the execution of the sketches they have that rapid fire Sorkin-esque thing going on it just doesn't work that well for sketch comedy. I think it may be a problem of Aaron Sorkin not letting other people help him write the comedy enough rather than letting other people help too much which has never been his problem before.
I have some hope, due to recent plot developments, that the previous not funny may have been purposeful comentary and it'll be coming to an end. Either way the best is yet to come with Studio 60.
I totally watched Young Americans (I was hanging out with Katie Wight at the time and she sort of pushed me into everything wb). I wonder if that's why Shane from the L word looked so familiar. I am sooooo fucking watching that movie.
Also, for your book... She's the Man sort of deals with gender identity and flirts with lesbianism and is of course based on the Twelfth Night... does it fit into what you would be using.
Hey Jezmicah. I think you're a beautiful person. I'm glad I get to share in your life via a computer.
