Kat sat on the rooftops watching the fireworks spatter the sky with brilliant colours as they welcomed in the start of a new year. The clock bell still chimed loudly - only on its fifth ring of midnight. Something had gone amiss and the fireworks had started too early. Not that it mattered, the people below still ‘ooh’ed and ‘aahh’ed as if they were scripted. And Kat herself loved fireworks. Oh she did love them so, like little explosions, or blood spatters in bright colour across a darkened sky. Christmas had passed without celebration in her home. She was never one for festive spirit. All that goodwill to all men shit had never washed with her at all. But New Years made her smile, every time it was like the start of a new era. And with all the fireworks that went off it reminded her of bonfire night - her other favourite holiday. Of course it was a holiday in memory of a murder plot and explosions, what better holiday could there be for a serial killer? And she was that, even through all her madness she knew what they’d put on her record, what they’d sentence her for, if ever she was caught. She leant forwards on the edge of the warehouse roof, hooking her feet under the protective barrier to stop herself from falling off. That wouldn’t do now. Not so close to the final strike of midnight. Only one more chime of the clock to go now…

As the final ring of midnight cut through the air so did a deafening explosion. Hundreds of fireworks spattered the sky and among them came the lick of flames and billowing smoke. Kat laughed, New Years had been particularly memorable for the residents of 82nd Street this year. It was amazing what you could do with just a little bomb. Especially one placed in a fireworks storage warehouse. She watched for a while as flames reached up into the sky, listening to the whine of sirens and screams of terrified partygoers just barely audible over the banging of the fireworks. This was the kind of New Years celebration she could have more of. Start the year as you mean to go on they say, well Kat was doing just that.

As the flames died down - finally extinguished by the efforts of the fire services - Kat flipped back off the barrier and onto the roof. Slowly she padded back across the roof, dancing to the rhythm of the explosions still going off into the night, and slipped down into the body of the building. The chill air and stench of old meat wafted up to her nostrils as she descended, causing her to wrinkle her nose slightly. She could hear a quiet moaning as she reached the chiller of the meat storage warehouse and she smiled.
“Well you made it to the new year.” Kat laughed, quietly studying the man who was hanging from one of the meat hooks. “You’re stronger than you look, I wouldn’t have pegged you for living much past half eleven.”
The man coughed and spat at her, glaring through the one eye he had left.
“You’re a monster!” He hissed.
“Oh you flatter me so.” Kat laughed, giving a small bow and simultaneously sliding her knife out of her belt. “But really flattery will get you nowhere Mr Keene… well it won’t prolong your life in any case.”
She reached out and tapped the end of the hook that was protruding from his shoulder with the point of her blade, causing him to cry out in agony. Smirking she drew the knife down, carving a perfectly straight line from the hook to his nipple.
“Shhh, don’t cry baby it’ll be over soon.” She cooed, leaning forwards and stroking his cheek, her lips hovering near his other ear. “Beautiful boy like you, I’m sure you’ll be in heaven in no time. Dancing with the angels in pretty white dresses.”
She kissed his cheek and stepped away, turning to leave. The man went to cry out but a sudden pain in his stomach stopped him. Looking down he saw the red slit and the steadily growing stream of blood on his abdomen. The retreating sound of footsteps had stopped and with fading vision the man looked up to see what was happening. Kat was stood in the doorway, studying the bloodstained blade of her knife with a smile on her face.
“Happy New Year.”

Disclaimer: Kat is mine. Steal and she'll probably take all your fingers off and gouge out your eyes. But that's just her way ;) Anyway I'm not making money off this and any similarities to real people or real events are purely coincidental and not intended. Kay?
