They were all EXCELLENT for different reasons. Kara's was the best-designed, Jay's was the most innovative and creative, but I felt that Wendy achieved the proper balance between them.
Kara's color scheme was wonderful but too neutral throughout. She's very afraid to take risks, as evidenced by many of her pseudo-Gucci designs. To add to that point, she relied too heavilly on nostalgia (updating designs that have been done decades ago) The cuts were extremely flattering, and very well constructed, but I feel like Ive seen them all before in other runway shows.
I looo-ooo-oooved Jay's collection because I think that it was fresh, new, and very inspired. His theme was so cohesive and evident throughout, that his designs were actually strengthened by being presented in a group. I felt, though, that his clothes relied to heavily on trends and eccentricity, and became very unwearable. All of my friends loved his collection the best, and argued me at every point with statements like "I would wear that in a heartbeat!" But these are the same people that wear a band t-shirt and jeans every day. The collection seemed very fashion-as-art, which I love to look at and appreciate for its asthetic value, but again is almost unwearable.
I was pleasantly surprised by Wendy. I felt that her collection was both original like Jay's but elegant and wearable like Kara's. I adored the color scheme. I can say with confidence that she managed to take the color of bad diahrreah and make it glamorous. She relied on nostalgia like Kara did, BUT she at least dipped back into the 18th and 19th centuries for her inspiration. I loved the drama in her work, too. It seemed so castles and princesses and sword fights. ALSO, if anyone knows the name of the song that she played during her runway show, please tell me. I LOVED IT.
I agree, however, with the judges' choice to make Jay the winner. He has more attitude and innovation to offer the fashion world than Kara and Wendy put together. And might I say, I have already ordered one of the Jay McCaroll totes from the Project Runway website. FUCKINNNN SUE ME.
Also, I want the Wendy Pepper "Longshot" T-shirt. Mmmm mmm.
Funniness: Something's wrong with my cable, so like these radio waves or cell phone waves keep coming through (don't even ask me how)and overpower the sound from the show, so it sounds like Michael Kors is yelling at Kara about Greenfield Avenue and telling her to turn her headlights on in a horrible midwestern accent.
Haha! Kara just saud "Good evening Steve!"
Ill close this in saying: Goddamn, Julia is tall. And beuatiful. And tall.
