Way to go John Kerry

"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." -Senator Kerry, 2006

Imagine if he was our Commander and Chief...
Sir, you never cease to amaze me.

Would you mind elaborating...what part of the comment should we substitute?

'education'

I've heard so much rhetoric about all the soldiers being volunteers but from those I've talked to recently and when I served during VN, that most are there because they can't find work outside the service... myself? I was drafted while in college because of the shortage of eligibles who weren't in school.

Peace

Sir, so you are saying that those Marines, who are dodging bullets and watching their brothers die on a daily basis, are doing it because of a lousy paycheck? The military does not pay that much. I think there is more to it than free chow.

Thank you for your prior service.

"Imagine if he was our Commander and Chief..."

Why not; I wish I ONLY had to imagine the G.W. presidency.

haha!

I'd rather see Richard Simmons over John Kerry as our Commander and Chief.

Whether or not you agree with the war in Iraq, it is a great disrespect to refer to the people laying down their lives for our country on a daily basis as stupid. Because, really, that is what that comment is insinuating. Really, he should have more respect and finesse than that...

I really don't think that Kerry was referring to the soldiers in that statement so much as he was referring to Bush's stagnant policy of nation building; that is, if you aren't an educated president, you get your nation stuck in a stalled attempt at nation building. I'm taking that into the context that it was one statement among many specifically bashing the administration; at times G. W. personally. I'll admit, it was poorly worded, and I can see how easy it is to turn into a political sound-bite. Just don't forget that it can be used both ways. I remember an incident last month in which the President said "It is unacceptable to think-". Makes for good political ammo ( ... )

We should be safe enough that we don't have to wake up fearing that we may die today.

Naw, but I got the jist of it. mr_insano November 2 2006, 20:19:32 UTC
I don't feel like I'll be killed today, nor tomorrow. I know many people might in cities involved in 9/11, but I'm skeptical that any amount of counter-terrorism our military can offer can really resolve ALL fear grief stricken families might hold. There will always be terrorists (simply because it can come from anywhere, not just the middle-east; reference: Oklahoma City) and there will always be justification to fight terrorism when it's valid. But right now, I notice the threat of terrorism to be used more frequently to scare voters one way or the other and as justification to dissolve some of the freedoms I thought were inherent in the Constitution (habeas corpus, Reference: Senate Bill # S.3930 signed by the President).

What rights are you willing to give up for safety, even when the danger is unspecific in nature?
