Y-you don't use layers? I use GIMP too but I've kinda been turning into a layer junkie lately. I think you can get the same sort of effect using an overlay layer and then you don't have to lasso things, just colour over ._.

I use one or two layers sometimes! But the only thing I mess with is transparency. And most of the tools have an option to adjust that, so there's no need usually. A-also touchpad. Which makes it more difficult to colour stuff in.

BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW YOU DO IT :( If there is a way to cut out all that lassoing that doesn't lighten the lines, I am game to find out.

I HAVE A TOUCHPAD TOO only I think it's easier than a mouse. It's like fingerpainting! :D

Hmmmm I'll have a play around and see if what I'm doing ends up like what you're doing \o/

I hate Lasso Tool like the plague so I avoided GIMP for ages, but I did recently find out how to select areas via a sequence of straight lines, which is extremely handy because every point you plot can be moved around later if you accidentally overran into whitespace. Just hit Path Tool, plot out a series of lines around the area you want, then hit Select From Path. May or may not be helpful for you.
