best of 2012 (music)
So I decided to make a best of 2012 post.
TOP 5 ALBUMS
1) MAX PROSA - Die Phantasie wird siegen
I was (and still am) pretty obsessed with this album. I don't usually listen to German music much, and when I first saw a video of Max on YouTube, I thought "okay, it sounds nice, but he just looks like one of those guys again, with his long hair and good looks". But going to his concert with a friend changed my mind, I enjoyed that concert so much and I realized that he's not like everyone else, his lyrics are really clever and poetic and his band is so talented, too. I've seen him live 4 times this year and every time was great, it never gets boring! Seeing him live makes me happy and feel like nothing else matters except music :)
2) ME AND MY DRUMMER - The Hawk, The Beak, The Prey
And again a German band, I am really surprised by this! I discovered them on Amazon when I saw their album and thought it looks really great, so I started listening to it because I didn't have anything else to listen to at that moment and it actually took me a while to get into their music, but then I fell in love completely. I saw them live with jellybaby_ and I was really impressed, I just love Charlotte's voice and her singing is so special. I always listen to this album now when I am in a bad mood and it always makes me feel good again :)
3) ALT-J - An Awesome Wave
I only discovered this a few months ago via Spotify and I fell in love when I listened to it the first time. I just love the combination of acapella-singing and electronic. The have some great melodies and I am not annoyed by one single song yet. Their music sounds so clear, I really love it!
4) THE XX - Coexist
The XX, of course. I love how this band developped so much. I think the new album isn't that extremely different from the first one, but seeing them live...they are SO electronic live, and it suits them so well! They're seriously pulling it off. Like real starts. I was so impressed. Well and the usual things of course, how Romy's and Jamie's voices sound so well together, just wonderful.
5) DJANGO DJANGO - Django Django
comepaint recommened this to me, and I instantly liked it, too! Their music is really different to what you usually hear and makes you dance around, haha :D The melodies are so great. I listened to this when I was just moving into my new flat, so it always reminds me of IKEA and building shelves etc :D
TOP 5 DISCOVERIES
1) CURSIVE
GAH THIS BAND. Vlad introduced me to them because "The Ugly Organ" is like his favourite album ever and I agree, this album is just perfect. I recommend you all listen to it because it is like so great. :D I don't have any words for the greatness of this album.
2) YOAV
I already saw Yoav live last year, but I didn't realize how good his music is back then. I love how he plays the guitar and how his songs are so hypnotic with such simple sounds. I love how he sings and I love his lyrics. His songs are so emotional sometimes, or relaxed or just make you want to move to the rhythm. I always listen to him now when I don't know what else to listen to, and it never annoys me.
3) GOLDEN KANINE
We discovered them on Hurricane and they are quite fun! I'd really like to see them live again, sadly we missed them when they were here because Vlad was sick :(
4) MARBLE SOUNDS
I don't even remember where I discovered this Belgian band, I think it was YouTube. Their music is so relaxing and I love their videos. I ordered their CD from their website because they don't even sell it on Amazon.
5) (CHILLY) GONZALES
I really don't know why I didn't know this guy before, I discovered him through 8tracks. He makes such wonderful Piano Music! I only just downloaded his new album and I'm quite curious :)
