My dad has a funny thing with Chinese initials, maybe that would be easier to get. and then aa choice of number. What format does the plate have to be in with regards to numbers and letters? Sorry just not familiar with state side car plates.

I think for this plate it's 6 letters and/or numbers. It's possible to just take what they give you (and it's actually less expensive to do so), so maybe I'll just go with that.
