[Coraline's disappearance has shaken her, but she's not panicking anymore. If anything, it's made her focus even more on the task at hand, her voice coming across even, firm and determined. She had to be determined. Sora, Wybie, Coraline, Damian... the kids she knew she'd just met and the kids she didn't know. She had to be determined for them.]

It's not anything new. I'm not even sure if this was written by a resident here, or was already in the book whenever the castle created it. But I found this written between the lines in one of the books I've been looking at.

There are woodcuts dated back to the 16th century in Germany featuring a tall, disfigured man with only white spheres where his eyes should be. They called him "Der Großmann", the tall man. He was a fairy who lived in the Black Forest. Bad children who crept into the woods at night would be chased by the slender man, and he wouldn't leave them alone until he caught them, or the child told the parents what he or she had done. Even then, there is this chilling account from an old journal, dating around 1702:
"My child, my Lars... He is gone. Taken, from his bed. The only thing that we found was a scrap of black clothing. It feels like cotton, but it is softer...thicker. Lars came into my bedroom yesterday, screaming at the top of his lungs that "The angel is outside!", I asked him what he was talking about, and he told me some nonsense fairy story about Der Großmann. He said he went into the groves by our village and found one of my cows dead, hanging from a tree. I thought nothing of it at first...But now, he is gone. We must find Lars, and my family must leave before we are killed. I am sorry my son... I should have listened. May God forgive me."

Willow and I went into town yesterday and I talked to some of the families of kids in my art class. Lana also checked in with her neighbors and the town police.
... Their kids are fine. No one's gone missing, as far as they know. And they haven't heard anything about nightmares or sightings. At least, right now, it doesn't seem to be going after the townspeople.
[a frustrated sigh] I'd say that'd be a great reason to get the kids to town, but Jo was in town with Mindy today when she was taken.
They had lots of complaints about livestock being stolen, though. Whatever this is seems to be getting the cows and things from the town. [and the kids from the castle]
