[That is the noise one makes when choking on a scream. Instead of screaming, little cracks appear all over him that widen and branch until he finally crumbles into a pile of terrified speechless pink dog.]
[That is, perhaps, even more concerning than the initial screaming. Pharos crouches down in front of the little pile of what was once a terrified dog-shaped being, and inclines his head, reaching out to put his fingers against a few of the pieces.]
Come now. I am sure doing such a thing can hardly be healthy for you.
Are you feeling at all better? You were quite loud a moment ago; it was somewhat troubling, to say the least. As odd as this place may be, it is not often that the residents go around shouting in such a manner.

What an interesting world you come from! I believe you are the first talking animal to arrive here since I came to the Castle - as far as I can recall, at least. I hope you will not be very lonely because of that.
Oh, so you have friends! That is wonderful. I do not believe I have ever heard of anyone going by those names arriving here, but it is certainly not an impossibility.
[Hopeful smile. Pulling a pencil out of seemingly nowhere, he starts scribbling in the journal. When he holds it up, he's drawn a smiling, stout old lady identified as Muriel and in her arms is a pink dog with the word "Courage" pointing to him.]

What a handy skill that is! I had thought you were just a typical dog, but perhaps my initial guess was wrong...

I must admit, I have never spoken with a dog capable of speaking before. Is that common in your world?

[There's even a chihuahua that speaks to the dead.]
