It depends on how long a trip you want to make it. There's a teleporter in the castle basement to use that will take you up north, if you just want to make a jump.

There's an outpost built up there, for making jumps into the dead zone. The teleporter will take you right to the border. There are two buildings, one in the powered zone, one in the dead zone. They're within walking distance. There's the lake up that way, and the dead zone outpost is close to the shore.
