[Today Yuki is hidden in a quiet corner of the library. She doesn't particularly mind the thought bubbles, but hers are rather... confusing. It's easier on everyone if she avoided the lobby until the castle finished with this unusual event ( Read more... )

(oh my... is that even language?)

[don't mind him, he's just staring at her thoughts curiously, trying to decipher them. he's not sure why since he knows he doesn't know and normally he wouldn't pretend to know but this is kind of weird even for him, so.]

[Once she's finished reading the page she's on she'll look up, staring at his thought bubble for a few moments.]

[oh, oops. oh well, having his thoughts read doesn't seem to faze him, not at this point anyway. the shock's worn off so he doesn't stare in wide-eyed wonder at the new set of ideas, instead greets the girl's face with an amicable expression.]

Does it have to do with the book you are reading?

[Yuki simply stares back with a neutral expression on her face. She doesn't particularly mind he was trying to read her thought bubble.]

No. It is unrelated.

[N is a prime example of the kind of person posted on the sociallyawkwardpenguin tumblr (not really though, he's not that bad) so he can't help but visibly pontificate whilst, well, staring at yuki.]

(well, i do need to interact with more humans, do i not?)

[after a pause, his face softens.]

Would you mind if I read near you?

[Yuki doesn't mind, of course, so there's no visible reaction from her.]

I do not.

[he's quite glad for the permission and before long he's disappearing momentarily only to return with a sizable book himself. N situates himself across her, quiet and unassuming though obviously quite glad for the company.]

[the formula dissipates as he looks up to her with an even expression.]

This is a book on physics. I have a deep interest in science and a love for formulas, so I have been reading this for quite some time.

[N makes a contemplative noise, though, evidenced by the blank bubble of thought, there isn't much going on in his head.]

I am not sure, to be honest. I haven't given it much thought.

[his expression does light up though.]

Perhaps because science and formulas are absolute, leave little room for interpretation and misunderstandings. Most formulas only have one answer, do they not?

Correct.

.... That is a logical reason to have an affinity for them. [Not one she'd expect from a human.]

[a small nod as he tries to keep his thoughts focused, looking down back into his book.]

There is a certain solace to be had from knowing that understanding isn't completely out of reach. Your thoughts remind me somewhat of a formula. Perhaps that's why I found them fascinating?

(how are one's thoughts incomprehensible to one's self?)

Nor are most formulas, to some people. Even I cannot comprehend every single one I come across. All the same, they are equally fascinating to me.

It is possible to understand all the mathematics found in the books here, given enough time.
