[ If there's one thing she's gotten wise of thanks to Deathwing it's being followed, hubby ): Even if she can't sense or feel him something just makes the hair on the back of her neck stand up, makes the whispers and visions worse.
It grates on her nerves and her mind in a way she is loathed to tolerate--so as a hand comes up to hold her face she suddenly blinks from sight, only to reappear one street over and stumble two steps forward before she catches herself. ]
[As she stumbles, something shifts within the shadows of the alleyway. The hooded person appears just beyond her reach. He is pale and gaunt in the little light that finds him, and what one can see of his countenance presents a frown.]
You should not be here...
[His voice lacks any sort of reprimand, only carries resignation. He can't bring himself to scold her. He can only pity her and love her no matter what she might be. He mourns for what will surely be a terrible awakening when this curse is over.
He takes a deep breath.]
For your own safety, you should return to whence you came.
[ --She knows this voice. Somehow through her madness she can tell distantly at least that much. Even if whispers cloud her mind and horrors blink in and out of existence in front of her, pulling her attention away from where she would want to focus it, she knows it. But how is impossible for her to discern as she whips her head around and glares viciously at him, eyes flashing in anger ]
[He takes a step closer. It's painful to see her like this. So painful. But her pain is more, and it will be that much greater when she realizes what she has done.]
I am whatever you want me to be. Now and forever.
[Another step.]
If that means you want me gone, then I will accept-but not before I examine that taint.
The Nightmare....this...you? You know...it? [ her voice wavers here--she can smell his coming closer, can smell what she hungers for--but his words call her attention even more ]
He is known to me and to you, though you do not yet realize it.
[He slides his hood back and shakes his silver hair from its grasp. His scars are somewhat visible down his cheek, though his eyes do nothing to light his face. He continues forward. Despite his slight figure, he is an impressive presence... and now he is not afraid to step into her personal space.
For all his walls, there is a bitter edge in his voice.]
[ There is it again--that feeling of knowing, of recognition that escapes her and makes her feel like her head is swimming. She wants to lash out, to strike and rend flesh from bone, but in his presence she is...caught. The whispers are worse, harsher, urgent, commanding--
Alexstrasza darts back as claws unsheathe themselves without warning ]
[He casually tosses up a shimmery barrier in case she tries to slice him. His expression is unreadable, but his gaze never leaves her face.]
I only wish to take some of your pain onto myself, but it seems I am too weak to do even that...
[His eyes narrow.]
Return to your base of operations. You will only find danger if you linger here. He knows where you hunt, and he will do everything in his power to make you see the world as he does.
[ ...it's the first offer she's been given outside of her own kind. The first time anyone who has appeared Terran to her that has offered themselves to her hunger, and her expression shows she can't quite...understand it ]
[His stoic expression falters slightly. His eyes lower, and he struggles to get a hold of his emotions. He once lied to her for the sake of the past, but this is so much more.]
Are you real....? [ it's barely above a murmur when she whispers it out, eyes seeing him but not really...there. Even as she approaches him it's without clarity, her gaze distant--upon a vision or some memory she can't quite grasp. ]
He just can't stay away. Not like this. And seeing her suffer is horrible for him.]

[He dismisses his shield and holds his hands out in a gesture of surrender.]
... If you truly must feed, then take my essence and retire. I am far more than I seem. I can withstand it.

I am real. If nothing else in this world makes sense to you, know that I am real.

But she does none of this, almost flinching away from his touch as she looks hastily to the side. ]
