[The journals around the castle try to transcribe this particular noise: the sound of a car smashing into an innocent hallway wall. It settles on an odd scrawl of jagging lines that should let the hearing impaired know that something very loud and unpleasant has happened ( Read more... )

[daklsghsa!! well that wasn't the first loud noise to be heard over the journal today. She jumps a little bit, and she's about to go over and close the journal when she hears her name.

But more than that, she knows that voice. One that she had thought wouldn't come back here.... so she just stops dead in her tracks before saying it in a softly, almost like she doesn't believe what she's hearing]

Dad?

[she takes another deep breath and is smiling, even if he can't see it. he also loosens her grip a little. She doesn't let go completely- honestly she would happy hug her father forever and ever- but it's her way of saying that she's okay, and she's not scared. Just relieved and so happy to see him]

Are you really okay? There was a crashing noise... [while she's close like this she's looking him over, making sure he's not hurt]

[He laughs a little at the idea of his daughter trying to make sure he's okay. He's the one who's supposed to be looking after her, right? But maybe it's always been like this... he hates to admit it, but her dad's just a big mess sometimes.]

No, no. I'm fine. [but he lets Nanako check him over all the same.] Just a little fender bender. [Actually, the car's totaled, but Dojima himself has fared much better than the last car crash he was in.]

[He no longer feels like she'll disappear if he lets go or looks away, so he loosens his grip as well and looks back in the direction he came from, thinking now about the car...]

...you were just in the passenger seat... you weren't in the accident at all? [The way she's acting makes him phrase that question rhetorically. It's obvious by now she hadn't witnessed the accident first-hand at all. He's glad for that; he's just... confused.]

We were coming back from Junes... [He half-heartedly offers details of the typical father-daughter day they'd just been enjoying together, last he checked. She remembers, doesn't she? He's starting to feel a little crazy, honestly...]

[she scrunches up her face and nods slowly, as if trying to remember something. It's hard to remember specifics about something that happened on a random day about a year ago...]

Then... you came here while you were driving. When I got here, we had just left the train station after Big Bro went back to the city. [she nibbles on her lower lip for a second]

So when you go home, you'll be in the car again, and I'll be there too! [she hopes that makes sense, honestly the specifics of the whole mess that is timelines working with Paradisa is pretty complicated]

[Oh Nanako, that makes no god damn sense at all, but he couldn't possibly fault her for trying.]

That was almost a week ago... [No, maybe even longer. BRAINWASHING AND KIDNAPPING, HOW THE FUCK DOES IT WORK!? He's never so much as heard of a case of this magnitude in all his years on the force.]

[But as much as he'd like to sit and worry about the particulars of who got kidnapped and brainwashedwhen and why, he doesn't. Paradisa resident for over a year or not, brainwashing victim or not, he is getting his daughter the hell out of this place. He can solve the mysteries of how they got here when they're safe at home. He stands and almost just stomps off in a direction at random, daughter in tow, but realizes as soon as he looks around him that it was very unlikely for there to be some sort of well-marked exit in this ridiculous castle. If his daughter truly has been here for as long as she says she has, and has never been able to leave...]

Has someone been keeping you here? Stopping you from leaving? [He kneels back down to look her ( ... )

Ah- [haha, she hurries to follow him, although she's surprised by the sudden... walking off in a random direction. But just as she's puzzling out where he might be going she stops to listen to his question. She shakes her head in response]

N-No... There are a lot of people trapped here, no one's found a way out.

[A lot of people... he immediately thinks about his run-in with the last person he'd ever expect to just bump into. "Victim" wasn't a word he'd usually apply to Adachi... he flexes his right hand, winces a little as he feels Adachi's broken nose along his knuckles. There's a conflicted look on his face as his lips tighten and brow lowers. Maybe Nanako's familiar with it? Guilt. And the only way Dojima knows how to deal with guilt: the determination of a detective.]

[If he was alone he'd probably disregard Nanako's information and go storming through the castle hoping to be the one person to somehow find a way out. But more important than finding a way out was staying safe and staying together. He's going to have to accept that Nanako must truly know more than he does...]

Nobody's tried to hurt you? [He looks around for hypothetical somebodies. He wants a suspect, a perp to chase, someone to interrogate. He is not liking the growing reality that he just smacked his car into the only culprit involved.]

[she watches him think, looking concerned. While she doesn't always know what her Dad was thinking, she is attuned to his mood, and that certainly hadn't changed in her time here. So while she doesn't know that he's feeling guilty, she can tell he's thinking hard about something. When he finally does ask a question she shakes her head again]

Uh uh.. I've made a lot of friends. [if anything, the people here have done nothing but protect her, something that she is always very aware of] And I'm always really careful, so I've been safe.

[He sighs... he knows looking for someone to shake down right after messing up and shaking down the wrong guy was a bad idea. He's getting better about it but it still takes a bit of effort to swallow his pride and remember what's really important here. He feels a little ashamed that he'd even wish for Nanako to have been hurt simply to give him an excuse to punch someone's lights out. A shallow desire for vigilantism where none was necessary wasn't the answer here.]

[He tries to rope his conflicted feelings in and gives Nanako the best smile he can in the situation.]

That's my girl. [He doesn't exactly think much of his own parenting skills, but he knows Chisato raised a wonderful girl who always did her best. His fear of losing her sometimes made him snap at her if she did something dangerous without knowing, but she was a young child. He wouldn't dare blame her if someone or something hurt a hair on her head ( ... )

[she nods again, and kind of goes on her tip toes for a moment too look at what people are saying (since she closed her own journal after finding him)]

Everyone has one, so we can all talk to each other. [she goes back to standing normally and pulls out her own journal, flipping through the pages]

Oh, um, and you can use it to talk to just a few people, if you want. [ffff I DON'T KNOW HOW FILTERS WORK, I always just assume that they write down who it's beig filtered to and like... draw a box around what their saying, haha... BUT HOWEVER IT WORKS, Nanako is showing Dojima]

["Everyone"... so the other voices he heard must be other people like him who've been brought here against their will. They must be the "friends" Nanako was talking about, then, since a brief skim tells him they seem to know her name. He makes a mental note to try and reply to them all later...]

[But first thing's first. His daughter is safe, sound, and teaching him how to use this damn new piece of technology. And he thought learning how to use the computers at work would be the last of it... he's not an idiot, though, and he follows her lead easily enough, after patting his pockets to find his pen.]

[FILTER: NANAKO]

[she nods and smiles! It's a strange feeling, being able to teach her Dad something, but she likes it. It makes her feel useful in a way that she can't quite describe]

Yeah! And only I can see it.
