70 Swords in the Stone

[Arthur is sitting in the dining room, chair pulled far away from the table to be able to peer out at the grounds of the castle. His chin is propped up in his hands, and he doesn't seem to be really be paying attention to anything out there. For once, he's actually enjoyed a world change, it in a way, had reminded him of home. The constant work and ( Read more... )

[She had taken to moping in her room after the pirate escapade. It was a very real reminder of what she was returning. But a few days had passed and Violet was never one to just stay in a bad place. She was still relatively new so after a trip to the library to return a few books (after all even with no due date, it's rude to keep books longer than necessary) the brunette decided on learning more about the castle.

It was a half hour or so later that she stumbled into the room. The young man was peering out toward the grounds. Violet tried to see what he was looking at, but after a moment, she turned to leave. She didn't want to bother his reverie.]

[Too late, Violet! He's a trained soldier, so it's hard not to notice someone who's not exactly being sneaky about entering the room. He's a little confused by her apparent departure, he honestly didn't think he appeared the least bit unpleasant, even if he's...Not exactly looking for company]

You do not wish to eat here?

[Violet turned back at the sound of the voice. She curtsies when adressed and shook her head.] I'm not hungry. I was just exploring the castle.

[He'll incline his head at the curtsy, to be polite, and offers a slight smile] Is that so?

And what have you already discovered? I could suggest far more interesting places, than the dining hall.

[She smiled back and looked around like she knows something grand.] Oh, one mustn't underestimate a dining hall. There are all sorts of hiding places. I'm sure there are at least a half dozen secrets in this room on its own.

And is that what you have an interest in? Discovering the secrets of others?

I do not see the hiding places here that you seem to, would you care to enlighten me?

Not exactly. I was just exploring. And you can never truly discover other people's secrets. For ever one you uncover, there are another twenty.

[Violet looked around.] You can keep secrets wherever. Plain sight is most often the best. Back home, sugar bowls are commonly used. Or Vessel for Disaccharides as they can be called.

You are wiser than you appear. [Being that you're kind of a kid, and all]

Sugar bowls? I don't see that as particularly useful, unless what it is you are looking to hide is poison. It is a fine powder, or cubed and frequently used.

[She bows her head with a small, sad smile.] I've had a lot of experience with it. It seemed my whole life was a layer of secrets and I never knew. I'm Violet, by the way.

Poison darts, if I'm to assume correctly. And then important documents. I'm not entirely sure. I just know that they're important. Or can be. Very unassuming place to hide something.

A pleasure, Violet. I am Arthur. [A slight pause] I think that is the burden of all children, some more than others.

I doubt you could fit a document within them. [But this is amusing him and a nice distraction from his thoughts] What else?

I haven't been a child for a very long time. [She frowns. It's something adults keep calling her, but at least in her world, what she has been through has been more than most.]

Oh, but you can. There was evidence of a friend of mine's innocence in one. Perhaps an entire file. I'm not sure, I never got to see it. [She moves over to the sugar bowl on the table and opens it.] There aren't any from my world here though. Just me. Just sugar. Pity. I'd almost hoped.

I was referring to the fact that it is a terrible habit of ones parents.

[But let's face it, she's kind of a child compared to most here. At least in appearance alone, but he's not really setting out to offend her when it wasn't what he meant. So he won't be pointing it out]

...Innocence? Another might arrive, one day. The castle frequently enjoys doing that to us. What world is it, that you come from?
