She thinks she can do anything herself, even when it's clear she needs help. She is a proud woman, that's true, but sometimes she doesn't know when to hold back. Honestly, if you gave me a nickel for every time somebody's asked her to take a vacation and she refused to, I'd be rich.
[insult, James? wait what? it's a good thing he doesn't voice that, or Five would be very confused. but once Tesla keeps the speech going, he nods in understanding. he's cut from the same cloth as Helen, after all - at least in that regard]
She sounds quite dedicated - it must've taken a good bit of doing to get her to ask for help, then, in the first place?
[Proud man is far to proud to admit he can't catch Helen on a dead sprint anymore, it's not strength in numbers so much as, strength in physical ability. And he nods at that with a rather tired sigh escaping him.]
Dedicated yes, enough to only take a vacation only once every seven years. Getting her to admit to having an issue alone was difficult, [And he still hated himself for that...] convincing her she needed help, outside help? I, took a very well deserved nap when I convinced her of that. [Not saying he had put his foot in his mouth in that discussion nope.]
Oh, you'll have to fight in order to get her to do something she doesn't want. And from what it sounds like, that's what James did. That's part of the reason why I was let out- James couldn't handle Helen on her own, not really.
[He grins.] She's a very intelligent woman, but at times she ignores her own needs.
Well, I should think that keeping herself from dying is something she can't quite say no to, wouldn't you? ... I'm curious as to why you think she'd need to be ... "convinced" of this.
I am, as well. I mean, it's not unheard of for highly intelligent people to forget things like food and sleep... but to ignore the fact that she was dying? That's a bit difficult to believe.
She, was not aware of it when she arrived, and while she was willing to take help from me, from Nikola, even from you, after some convincing, the one thing you have to understand is, the three of us have, lived far longer then any human, and you are human Nikola at least partially, [Thrown over his shoulder at the other man] has in our world. We have, gathered a great many memories, a great many trials and triumphs, and a substantial amount of guilt.
[Nikola "hmmphs" slightly at the "half-human" part.] Oh, yes, thank you for revealing that to the world, James. I needed that.
But yes, he's right. She puts others above herself...which is an admirable trait, but one that does get her in an amount of trouble. But we three get in trouble all the time. Death practically hangs on our coattails and yet never finds the time to catch up to us. We basically scoff in its face. That's why it's hard for her and us to believe that she's suffering like this.
Mm, completely unfamiliar. [he couldn't look more wry and deadpan about that if he tried - unless, of course, Eleven can do any better]
Well, with any luck, the four of us will outnumber her willpower. [he leans over and grabs Eleven's wrist, checking his watch] ...Where the devil is she?
[ You had to forgive her for being late, especially when she didn't actually leave straight away. She's apprehensive about the whole thing and as glad as she is that they've found something there's that nagging feeling of it not working. But eventually she does arrive, giving a knock on their door ]
Ah, there she is. The lady of the hour. [Five smiles, acting as though it's perfectly normal to have four people present at a treatment session] Please, come right on in. I trust you didn't have too much trouble finding the lab again?
[and thus will follow a crude map through the corridors that lead from the console room to Eleven's lab. TARDIS navigation can get tricky, after all]

I did get that impression when she first came to me. It's good that she has friends such as yourselves, here.

[He cranes his neck to look at his watch with Five] You're right, she really should have been here, by now.
