rose: be prepared

Merely out of curiosity, how is Halloween usually observed here? It seems right up the castle's proverbial alley, and I'm wondering if I should invest in a padlock and armaments ahead of time.

[Said with a bored, drowsy sort of sarcasm. But with the unwelcome gusto with which Paradisa began autumn, and having heard and read of various horrors in ( Read more... )

Armaments, definitely. A padlock probably won't be all that much help though.

At times when things are going on, it's impossible to cross into the dead zone.

Ah. How irritating that must be.

Mm. When we might otherwise wish not to fight, the issue is forced...

Just another way of the castle making sure that we have a full understanding of our place here.

I have to wonder sometimes if some things are entirely the castle's doing. But, well... that's how it goes.

And if they were not entirely the castle's doing, whom else's would they be?

There's a world out beyond the castle, Rose... it's not empty.

I wish I could really give more than theories.

I am aware that there are others living beyond our grounds, but their influence over our experience here is something that I haven't heard much about.

I might be in the minority for not blaming the castle for every bad thing that happens. I don't hate it as much as some.

I've been here over three years... so I suppose I can contribute more experience than some others. I also think it's a bit incongruous that some people feel so trapped by this world, I guess. We're always trapped in whatever world we're from, at the mercies of forces there, unable to control everything. This place just... emphasizes it more.

What I'm particularly thinking of with this is events where children were kidnapped... that's months ago, now...

The feeling of entrapment perhaps comes from the variety of situations from which residents are taken. Those who are ripped from peaceful times are bound to feel more constrained than those who face peril upon their return.

I was told about that event, by John. The castle seemed to be on your side, if I remember correctly?

It supplied us with a great deal of information about what was going on. Not directly... there are just so many questions with no answers. And it seems things around here sure have changed.

What sorts of changes?

One of the pieces of information we found seemed to indicate that the castle used to communicate with people in some way... beyond the obscure ways we might say it communicates today.
