[Carolina nods efficiently as she moves into his room, a little grateful that at least he's chatty. Sure, it might not be useful on the battlefield, but it does help alleviate some of the social pressure from her.]

No. [He mused, nonchalantly closing that door behind him as he followed her into what looked like a mixture between a futuristic apartment and a military barrack.] I suppose not.

[Then he'll make a point to gesture down the hallway and towards the not quite as fancy kitchen.]

But the piece of tech I mentioned is over there on the counter.

[Carolina takes a glance around at that apartment. Not bad. She herself was considering redecorating to something way more her taste and way less royal palace. At the gesture, she heads down the hallway to that not quite as fancy kitchen and the tech sitting on the counter.

She's not quite sure what she's looking at, so she glances over at him for possible explanation.]

[Rookie moves to stand on the other side of the counter, once he steps into the kitchen himself. And although he catches that look quickly enough, it still took him awhile to find the right words to try and explain the golden, intricately designed heptagon sitting on the table.]

It's... some kind of music box, I think. Worked once on the expedition, when I used one of those power crystals on it, but it shorted out. [He'll lean forwards to prop open one of the seven, petal-like latches on the top, revealing the technological mess inside.] Haven't figured out a way to fix it since.

[Carolina nods at the explanation, reaching forward to gently pull back one of the latches as well. Yeah, that's a complete mess. ]

We could try opening it all the way up. Map out where pieces were when they started.

I doubt we could do any further damage to it, anyway, if we're careful.

[Carolina nods as she carefully opens another one of the petals.]

Did anything else you find indicate what might have made the device?

[That gets a small shake of his head.] No, ma'am.

Most of the items I came across were too different in design to be part of the same make-up, much less from the same world. [He'll move to lean away from the counter and fold his arms, keeping his attention directed towards that box.] Did try my best to grab whatever looked interesting, though, but so far this is the only item that's shown any promise of working.

[Carolina opens the last petal and carefully sifts through some of the broken junk in the device, being sure to be delicate with the pieces as she removes them, if possible. And hey look there's a crystal in there!]

Rookie.

[She doesn't even touch the crystal, having some small experience with Covenant weaponry being volatile. So, she tilts the device gingerly toward him.]

[There are some parts that are easy enough to take out, but others stay where they are and refuse to move.

He does, however, allow a questioning cant of his visor when hearing his name, before shifting forwards to see what it was that she had found. Only when seeing the crystal did Rookie seem more interested, and he reached a hand out to carefully pull back some of the stuff inside to get a clearer view.]

A crystal? [Pause.] I wonder what that's for.

There were mentions on the expedition of power crystals that the Castle gave the residents last year for Christmas. It could be something similar.

Could be. [He takes a moment to hover over the crystal, mostly to consider touching it, before he'll shrug and tap the surface gently to see what it'd do.

When all he felt was a tingling sensation, and noticed a dim shimmer of light that grew brighter in reaction to the touch, he pulled his hand away.] ... Don't think so, though.

[Carolina isn't so sure about him touching it but fff Rookie's already touching the crystal. Well. At least nothing's blowing up.]
