This entry is being made as a note to self, just in case. It's well-known how people tend to disappear seemingly at random around here, after all.
So, from me right now to me later, in case it's necessary: and I should make a series of these, but I'm starting out like this - you should look up one John Egbert if you disappear and come back and don't remember him, or if you both do and neither of you remember the other.
He's a silly kid. He's got black hair and blue eyes and some special powers, but mostly it seems like he hasn't grown into them yet. You ought to know a few people with weird powers by now, if you've arrived back, and yes, it's true that people can do these things. Prepare yourself to deal with a lot of strangeness. John's powers aren't scary, though, and like I said even if he hasn't grown into them yet, I think he'll eventually use them well.
Like I said he's a silly kid. But he's a good kid too, and he really means well and has a good heart, I think. Even if you won't remember it, you've done quite a bit together. You've gone exploring and you were right there when he was kidnapped by a monster - couldn't do anything, but actually, he didn't hold a grudge. That's the kind of kid he is too, I think. No grudges so far as I've seen.
He likes pranks and bad movies but not pastries. He wants to take stuff on that I don't always know that he's ready for, so I think it's fair to say he could use some protection, or at least a few good friends watching his back. He'll give back as good as he gets anyway, or do his best to. He's worth being friends with.
If you get back and you don't remember him, and he's still around, you should look him up again. He's a good kid. One you can trust.
[John Egbert]
Hey John. There's no need to respond to this filter unless you want to. I'm just doing like we agreed, where we'd write letters to ourselves? Well, I did mine, but I thought it might be a good idea to write one for you too.
So, hello, John! If you're new here, and don't remember being here before, this might be the first time you're looking back in the journals and seeing this letter. My name is Asano Rin. Just Rin is fine. And it's good to write to you!
While we're both here now, we're friends. We've kind of done a lot of stuff together! We've gone exploring the outside world a lot, and you came to live with me in the outpost in th dead zone for a while, for instance. I've met Jade and Rose and Dave too, and Karkat and Aradia, lots of other people from your world...
It's been really good being friends with you. But the thing is people here disappear without warning a lot! It's just the way this world works. So, instead of just passively waiting for that to happen, we agreed to write letters to each other reminding each other we were friends!
I thought I'd write one to you too, if we're hopefully going to meet again. I liked being your friend this time, so I would hope we could meet again. It's been a lot of fun. You're a good boy! It sounds like you've had a lot of scary adventures and gotten into some big stuff, but I also believe that you'll have the responsibility to use the powers you've gained well, and fight hard to find victory in your game, for all your friends, and yourself. That's my hope at least. That you make a good world and a bright future. You and your friends deserve it.
I might be gone by the time you're reading this letter on the other hand. In which case, after this one time, we might never meet again. Sometimes friendships just work out like that and it's sad, but it's the way it is. It's not something to not be sad about, though. You are allowed to be sad about any sad things that happen to you! Things can be awful sometimes and you shouldn't feel bad about feeling bad. But happiness is my wish for you, that you'll be happy, able to protect those who are important to you, and able to protect yourself.
I also hope it's not the last time we meet. Sometimes things work out like that, but I think it sucks when they do anyway.
Rin
[Uncharacteristically quiet since the outposts were destroyed, this one. Writing instead of speaking up, somewhat after the rest of this...]
Would anyone be willing to teach me to shoot?
