THE HUNT

[Rise and shine, residents. Nothing like the thrill of the hunt to get you going in the morning.

The gist of it is simple enough: further south an hour or so, there are deer. Giant deer. Great, massive deer. They're springy and slender as a normal deer might be, but they are also toweringly tall, like elephants. The males have antlers that resemble trees. Any resident who might be useful is invited to help with the hunt: after all, it is breakfast they're after, and how often do you get to hunt giant deer?

Lente mostly keeps watch, hanging back to observe them and oversee what they're doing without giving much input beyond general instructions of where they're going and what they're hunting. Maybe this is a different sort of test.]

What do you call these things, anyway?

That's it? It doesn't have a special name? [he's a little disappointed] Oh, well.

Oh, wow. [Yeah, she'll settle for watching everyone else tackle these things. Besides a pair of pliers, Coraline doesn't have any real weapons]

[yeeeah. Billy's hanging back, too. Hunting is pretty much the opposite of anything he'd be good at]

That's a little terrifying.

...At least they have eyes?

It's definitely not normal. [She laughs a bit] And giant horns. I just hope my friend doesn't try to ride one. She's already got an eight-legged sheep.

She still has that thing?

Yeah! Edward's a little... crazy.

That's one word for it.

Hopefully no one tries to take one of these things home.

I'd rather take one of those turquoise horses. They're pretty cool.

My money is on us taking one back with us. It seems like we've taken some weird animal back with us every time.

Ha. It's my first expedition, but I can tell. An eight-legged sheep named Archie seems like enough weirdness to bring back.

Yeah, that was... a weird trip.

[Sitting on Tad, watching these things and thinking. Maybe if someone sets her up with a tripwire to take out, they can knock one over and move in for the kill? Usually Tad could just knock one of them over and rip its throat out, but they're not of normal size.]
