[She totally did, even if she didn't show it. And it's probably unintentional, but that sentence makes Xena freeze for a split second. People who know her full story usually want to run her out of town/kill her.]

You mentioned your skills but how is it that you became so proficient with them?

[Well, she'll tell you half the story, anyway.]

A long time ago, I was just the daughter of the local tavernkeeper. My brothers and I would spar- we were all pretty good, but it was just in fun. Then, one day, our village was targeted by a local warlord. We fought him off, but it wasn't pretty. I became skilled because I had to.

[ Half is pretty good ]

What happened to him, to your village?

My village survived. [Pause] So did he. Caught up with him years later, though. Last I saw him, he was being going to be tried for his crimes.

[longaevus]

I am glad that it did. [ Perhaps not that he did but she wasn't saying anything on that ] Were you able to see the result of his trial?

[forgedinbattle]

Nope. I had to move on. [In both senses of the phrase.]

[ A slightly sad look ] I'm sorry for that. Perhaps one day you may learn of that fate, if you still desire it.

Maybe. But I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it. He doesn't deserve that much of my time.

That is no doubt a wiser decision, then. [ If only she could stop dwelling, some times ]
