[Thanks to his castle-induced nap, Durge is alert on the defensive in seconds. He addresses whoever is nearby]

[He settles in a wide stance, necessary to swing the huge blade he pulls from the sling on his back. It's so large, in fact, that he quickly finds it's easier to turn the sword and smack the birds out of the air with the flat of the blade.
[There is a slight pause while he listens, tilting his head slightly, then suddenly...]

[The angle is awkward, but Durge turns and swings the blade in an overhead arc, followed by several loud smacks as it collides with more than a few of the pests. It's only a fraction of the flock, though, and with them up close, he's out of room to swing]
[Carolina waits until after that swing to move in closer, her torch scorching the birds as they fly in. It takes a moment but she quickly sees Durge's disadvantage and she takes another couple steps closer. If he swings, she's done for, but she's trusting him not to as she utilizes her smaller stature and speed to quickly dispatch another portion of the flock.]
