Nanaki snuck out of his room by way of the window. It was dangerous, sure, but even as a cub the firecat was fearless of heights. He always had been--came from living in the Canyon and scaling the cliffs frequently. He carefully hopped from windowsill to windowsill until he made it to the ground.

There, he ruffed his fur with one large shake of his body and then looked around cautiously. He needed something to entertain him.

Silverbolt was on patrol around the castle when the something red caught his attention. He had seen it from the corner of his eye, and watched as said something red made it's way to the ground. Well, that was interesting? Couldn't it have just taken the door?

He landed a few seconds after the red thing hit the ground, notcing that whatever it was, it was young. "Excuse me? Is anything the matter little one?" Something about it nagged at the back of his mind. Had he and this one met before...?

Nanaki jumped backwards and instantly his hackles were up. Surely the giant beast in front of him was much too large for him to fight and win, but after this afternoon's scare he was determined more than ever to be a brave little cub.

He growled as loudly as his little throat could manage and hissed as he took a small swipe that was nowhere near hitting the wolf. "I'm fine!" he finally growled out after realizing he had actually been asked a question.

He smiled down at the cub and chuckled "It's all right, little one. I mean you no harm." Silverbolt sat down with a hope that the creature would calm down and see he wasn't an enemy.

"Are either of your parents about or are you here alone?" Again, that nagging feeling. Where had he seen this one before?

Slowly the tiny growl rumbled down to a trickle, and then, quite suddenly, nothing at all. Red glared up at the beast as if it sitting down was merely a ploy to get the firecat to relax before the beast pounced on the much smaller kitten. He titled his head to the side and narrowed his eye suspiciously.

Suddenly he plopped down on his butt. He craned his neck up and up and up... and met the wolf's eyes with his on amber orb. He gulped softly, but otherwise kept his proud, dignified manner intact.

"My parents?" the cub asked curiously. "My parents... are..." he looked down, obviously thinking about the answer. "My parents are dead. For a long time now." He looked back up. "I'm here alone!" He stared up at the wolf defiantly.

He put a claw over his chest, unable to stop the pity leaking into his voice "Dead... I see. I apoligize." Tapping a talon against his chest, Silverbolt sighed. Poor thing. Having no parents at all was the easiest...

"Are you hungry little one? There are rabbits and deer in the forest." He pointed at the begining of the forest. "If you can't hunt for yourself, I can catch you something. Also, you can also stay in my cave and eat if you wish." The cub was too young to be on it's own. Silverbolt would hate himself if he left it to fend for itself.

Red puffed out his chest unknowingly and looked up at the dire wolf without regret. "I've had a longer time than it would appear to come to terms with it," he said somberly. Perhaps too somberly for his age.

His ears flicked alittle at the mention of food. What with the scare earlier and all, Red hadn't thought of eating for quite some time now. He glanced towards the eerie forest in the distance. "Umm.... forest? How do... How do you... hunt in a forest?"

He nodded, not knowing what he should say. He'd never really lost anyone, so he had nothing to say on the subject. Besides, he seemed to be coping... Though, that didn't make Silverbolt feel any better...

He grinned, standing up "Not to fear, little one! Uncle Silverbolt will show you how to get a rabbit!" The only reason he himself knew this was from his stint as a full wolf. Well, at least something good came from that...

Nanaki tilted his head to the side curiously and looked at Silverbolt with a perplexed look. "Un-c-le?" he said hesitantly. He shrugged it off--an awkward little roll of the front shoulders that consisted of a feline version of the human gesture.

Red stood up, following "Uncle Silverbolt's" lead. "Ok! Let's go!" He grinned his feline grin up at the large wolf-hawk.

Nodding, he led the way into the forest, chattering the whole way "Rabbits live in burrows if you didn't know. The best way to get them out is to scare them out and then chase them down. Since you're here, I can chase and you can scare." He blinked, looking at the cub with a raised brow "Or would you rather do the chasing?" Would the little one be able to chase and kill a rabbit? Well... He looked able...

"When you've got the rabbit, we can go to my cave. It's over that way." He pointed with a wing to the west then continued on. "Since you don't have your parents, you can stay with me. The cave is large enough. It needs to be for when the other Maximals come!"

Red followed, bouncing lightly in leaps and bounds to keep up with the much larger creature. He didn't seem to be bothered by the pace, and in fact looked like he was having quite a bit of fun pouncing around randomly like that.

He looked up at Silverbolt and nodded, which came out as a silly bob with the way he was currently walking. He calmed down a bit and pranced close to Silverbolt's front heels.

"I can scare! I can be scary!" He said proudly, as if it were a great feat to be fearful. "And... I'd like that. To stay with you, that is. For a while. At least tonight since it's a long climb back up to my room or Lana's or Reeve's or... anyone else who would have me..."

"You may stay with me for as long as you wish. And if you wish. I can fly you back to what room you want." He spread his wings in emphasis with a smile. The cub was so cute...

"Do not worry. No matter what happens now, I will always be your ally, little one." He nudged him lightly with his muzzle "I would fly you to the moon if that was what you wanted." Though for that he'd have to build a ship... But the young cat wouldn't have need to be on the moon anyway. It was just a figure of speech, so he really shouldn't think too hard on it.
