1) consider why your therapist might have told you this 2) ask her to explain to you how she came to this conclusion and calmly explain your side of things and why you feel that it may not be the best decision 3) consider why you may be so close to Alex now, when he was barely mentioned when Chris and James were around. Is he your best friend or a friend that was in the right place to take over an empty place in your life? 4) don't stop going just because you disagree with your therapist. Discuss the situation calmly with them until you feel that she understands how you feel. She cannot and will not force you to remove people from your life, but she can make suggestions, which you should consider, even if you don't take the advise.

Alex has always been in my life, I just didn't see him alot due to the fact that he lived a good distance away from me. Since he moved he's been showing up more.
I'm not going to stop going... I just might be going less now
