[ Tilts head a little to the side ] Valentines Day?

I... think people give out fake hearts because they can't actually give each other their real hearts? [ Alphonse is a little confused. Also, a little jealous at people who actually have real hearts... ]

You're so silly. From what I understand when people are in love, you're giving someone your heart anyway. Though not physically. But that does not mean it's any less important, emotionally and mentally giving someone your heart is just as dangerous as physically doing so.

So I don't understand why people opt for a lesser expression of that with paper hearts. I don't think they should tear our their own hearts, although that's not a bad idea, but get a heart from an animal or something to show that devotion.

But then you'd be hurting an animal! Giving a paper heart wouldn't harm anyone and it can still have significant representation.

You think so? It doesn't seem better to me. Maybe the fact that an animal has to be harmed puts more value into the heart given.

I have to say, that's kind of gross.

I guess it is, but it has more meaning than a paper heart.

Yeah, I guess. 'I'm willing to rip people's hearts out for you.' Nothing says 'I love you' like a jail sentence when the mundies catch you.

That's if they get caught, Fraulein.

But it's still a sacrifice. Probably something a lot of people are not willing to make because of the consequences.

Fake hearts? Do you know how to give someone a heart?

[Schrodinger's ears flicked at hearing that. It was a weird question.]

Besides cutting it out, I know no other method. But I don't think that's what you mean. Are you saying that you seek a heart?

Paper can be rather strong, also paper cuts are often the most painful.

I suppose that people may give paper hearts to symbolize that they are giving the spirit and love of their heart rather than the organ of their body. Similar to how the mind and brain are often not considered the same.

Ah, you must be wise, Mister.I understand that a paper heart can symbolize love in absence of the real thing.

But I wonder why people opt for using fake hearts and instead of the real one? Wouldn't the meaning be just the same if not greater? And why not use real hearts,is it because of morals? Aesthetic? Lack of nerve?

To give a real heart would mean that you had taken a life, cutting it short, which wouldn't be a good way to convey wanting a long life with someone else.

Well that depends on the person receiving heart, right?

In my world, cutting someone's else life is the key to living a longer life. Especially if you're a vampire.
