we matter because we're having a huge affect on the world. whether you like it or not humans rule the world right now. we're also destroying the world. we are important. importance isn't always focused on the positive.
I matter to me!! but yeah, we haven't been here very long at all. but anthony is right, we have DRAMATICALLY changed the earth in the very very short time that we have been here. So humans are important to the earth.
But if you really think about it... What is importance? Does importance equal the amount of time that a planet has been in existence... is 4.6 billion years important? The fact is... Importance is a relative term. What's important to me, isn't going to be the same thing that is important to a deer or a rock.
I don't know what I am getting at, but the basic point is that for a person who isn't religious, NOTHING is really important in the long run. And that's what we have Existensialism for. mew!
Well, I would have to agree with Melissa, Anthony, and Kitty on this one (I need to kow your name!) All are good points. They all make sense to me! I just have something to add.....I think....We are important, but we aren't. We are important for the time being, but in the future, nothing else matters. I'm sure a comet will come and wipe us off this earth or something to that affect. The matter is, when? But, to live in the future is futile. So we must live for the day. I don't consider the human existence to be "important" persay because they are going to destroy themselve and the planet anyways. But the times that we are in and our lives are important. It doesn't matter about all the affairs and things that humans will do in the future. And not to be conceded or anything but the only thing that is actually important is you and those you love. Thats all that really matters. And i totally agree I'm am SO ahamed to be a human, but the way i think of it is that we can't help but be human, so we might as well make the best of it. So being

Yes, we DO matter in the fact that we are so drastically changing the earth. We are destroying the earth (hence me being ashamed). What makes me mad is that we think we matter SO much that we are allowed to destroy the earth. With our mental capacities comes great responsibility, and the human race as a whole is esentially spitting into responsibility's face. THAT is the problem.

Oh turst me, all the humans that are living can pretty much die if all I care, you know me I'm a vegetarian human hater and I am totally down with the destruction of mankind. But I'm just saying that there is nothing we can do, so we might as well just do our best in living............
