That second issue (threatening Harry) really annoys me to no end. She can wave this...thing in his face that can easily kill him with the right words over some minor mishap. Harry wouldn't dare harm a hair on her head for any reason, has to endure this. Makes no difference if Harry is just Harry or Super Harry. And it's written to be amusing, with brothers all around with smirks on their faces. A humor device, because Ginny is tiny.
The first one is more theatrical then anything. If they can't think of a plot, they will throw this in as angst. Very common in fan fiction, not just HP.
Still don't know that much about the NFL, but our Ravens are going in to the playoffs (I think) next week. If they win, they get home field advantage for the next game.
I don't read other fandoms so I didn't know that dog training was common. I have tried Dr Who, but it's littered with Rose Tyler and chavs are not my thing. The Dresden Files fics just seem to match Harry with his brother rather than Murphy or Molly as I would do - perhaps I should write some?
Yes, the Ravens are in the playoffs. The first live game I ever saw was the London Ravens playing in front of a crowd of 20 or so at a local rugby club. One of the players knew so little that he handed a thrown flag back to an official saying ,'Oi, mate, you've dropped this.' Happy days.
Hmmmm ... I have been known, on occasion to write jealous!Harry. I agree that Harry is bound to have some emotional/relationship issues due to his upbringing. I dont think that gets him off scott free when he acts like a prat and expect Ginny would call him on it from time to time. She has a temper but I expect she is quite long suffering when it comes to Harry and his emotional baggage.
There is precendence for hexing out of temper in canon - Ron hexing Ginny during their fight in HBP and Hermione siccing the birds on Ron.
I don't think that gets him off scott free either, but I've not read many - if any- stories where Ginny takes him through this. Rather she tells him off or shuns him until he apologises - bit like training a dog really.
I accept your examples from canon, but I would point out that they are children and Hexfirst!Ginny manifests in adult and as a supposedly mature year 7 Ginny. If Harry's behaviour is immature and needs correcting (which it does) then does the hexing.
I suppose it does remove the need for writing the dialogue necessary to show the development in Harry's character and move the relationship on.
Anyway, thanks for dropping by and joining in the debate.
The story I read, after much trawling, was Harry Potter after the War. I thought that this was some woman's fantasy of a husband initially , however the writer is male
( ... )
I was writing - it's just complete and utter tripe and not worthy of publication of any sort! I was hoping to get some done over the summer but I fear I am rusty and the ideas in my head to finish my WIP come out on the screen as complete rot.
A jealous Harry while understandable since there is a precedence in canon is not acceptable in a committed relationship.
Jealousy, while some women eat it up with a spoon because to them it denotes love, is primarily insecurity and distrust. I have very little patience for jealousy in a relationship mine included, if I'm jealous it's because I've been given a reason to be, which in turn tells me I'm with the wrong gentleman.
Just like hexing as 'dog training' as you put it is unacceptable I feel the same way about stories where women slap men with impunity. If a man can't hit a woman, a woman should not hit a man.
There is no place for name calling, words used as weapons or physical violence when there is mutual respect in a relationship.

I agree. I think its ok to use as a plot device as it creates tension especially if the back drop is Ginny at Hogwarts and Harry beginning his auror training or where Ginny is the rising star and poster girl of the Harpies and Harry has to deal with bloke's comments about her. My problem lies in its resolution and the missed opportunity to build a character based plot.
