AKICILJ*: media players?

Dec 23, 2008 02:00

Can anyone recommend a good (free or very low cost) media player? I want to be able to copy and burn CDs etc, and ideally print jewel cases. I'm having woes with both Windows Media Player (eeeeevil!) and Real Player....any recommendations?

VLC is versatile and free.

I wasn't aware that VLC could burn.

I have no advice; I just think it's funny that I initially read your entry title as "media prayers" and did a bit of a double take.

I like Apple's iTunes. It doesn't print but I used it happily for ripping/burning even before I got my first actual iPod. It's free but only as-in-beer, and not without quirks. But CoverFlow is very pretty.

I use MPCstar for playing. I have no advice on burning/copying, but MPCstar seems to play back anything I damn well throw at it.

thanks, that's the one I'm going with- it turns out to be the one we use at work, too- as soon as I went to the site I recognised that little traffic cone!

(plus tbh, when you recommend a product I tend to feel pretty confident about going with it 'cos your research is/was always so thorough ;) (like, I think you're prob a bit more impulsive these days, but I trust your nose for these things!))

=nods= re the traffic cone =smile=

and =nods= re slightly more impulsive these days =smile=

but, yes, i do tend to look into things quite thoroughly still, and i also listen and learn from others, and try a thing or three and make my own opinion.

i think in some ways it's easier with some softwares cos yo can download them, install them, try them, and then uninstall them if it doesn't work out. i did that with a host of programs for talking with ipods over on ubuntu (to date, i'd recommend banshee for that purpose on that OS).

i forgot to say in my original comment that i do not lie itunes for windows. tho i think one of your other commenters did, iirc.
