IC:

Character name: Death the Kid
Fandom: Soul Eater (manga)
Timeline: Shortly after his capture by Noah but before meeting the being in the Book of Eibon and going nuts.
Age: appears to be 14, though it's canonly possible he's older
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: On a simpler front Kid's 'strengths' are his markmanship, skill with pistols and general mobility. He's an excellent gunman and rather fast. His other abilities fall into more specialized categories.

Meister: Kid is a meister, which in his series means he is able to use others, known as weapons, in fighting. Kid has only been shown using Liz and Patty, twin pistols that shoot compressed waves of the users soul wavelength. It's unlikely he'd want or be able to use many other weapons, as he obsession with symmetry demands certain prerequisites and his wavelength and personality in general is most likely too much for many to handle.

Reaper/Shinigami: Kid is a shinigami (or reaper, whichever dub/sub/translation you prefer.) and because of this has abilities different from humans.
- 'Konso,' the ability to hold souls for later use.
- His body itself is immune to certain things, including poisons and damage from UV light. He's unable to dye the lines in his hair, which could suggest his body rejects alteration. The lines themselves have properties that may be the reason why he cannot.
- The three lines in his hair are called 'sanzu lines.' Little has been revealed about them, or even how they work, but when one (or more presumably) of the lines connect Kid seems to have access to not only greater power but powers related to his father, Death himself. He was able to upgrade his weapons from .32 to .44 as well.
One of the abilities he used under this influence were 'black skull arms' that allowed him to reattach his arm. His father showed a similar ability, though much higher power and more offensively.

He's also got a flying skateboard named Beelzebub he can seemingly conjure at will and is quite good at riding.

How would they use their abilities?: Kid is rather black and white on some of his views, but he's morally very resolute in his stance. He would never use his abilities to harm someone he didn't deem a threat, and would be unlikely to resort to violence unless he felt it was necessary. Or someone destroyed something symmetrical. A crime worse than any in his book.

But seriously, even then it's unlikely he'd go very far unless the person was truly evil (in his mind) and a threat.

Appearance: Kid's about an average height for a fourteen year old, lean and not particularly tall or short. His eyes are gold/orange shade, rather sharp and usually set in an almost disinterested sort of look. His hair is black and unremarkable save the three strips running horizontally parallel halfway around his head.

He usually wears a suit with white detailing and a silver/metal skull in place of a tie. The same skull motif is on his rings as well, a detail seemingly related to his father and/or family.

Background/Personality:

Personality:

Kid, at first glance, is a rather solemn, reserved young man. His normal facial expression is an almost disinterested sort of look, and when he speaks it's usually well thought out and worth hearing (minus the symmetry bits I will discuss later.) Despite these airs he does act his age around his friends, indulging in basketball or the normal activities of a group of teenagers. While he doesn't often show a deep affection for anyone he does care deeply for his friends, becoming enraged when he hears of Noah and Gopher's plan to attack Maka and concern for both Black Star during one of the boy's darker periods and Soul when it came to the scar Crona gave him.

Personality-wise he can give off airs of superiority, though a lot of it is justified. Since he is a shinigami he does not have the same body and weaknesses as humans do, along with a set of powers only seen in him and his father. Being the son of Death himself, the ruler of the city and the being that regulates human life and death, he puts a great deal of responsibility on his own shoulders when it comes to the wellfare of humanity and the world itself. He often berates himself when his skills aren't up to his own standards, a trait that goes with his generally negative personality about many things.

A huge part of Kid's personality, in crack moments and serious ones, is his OCD. He has a rather severe (and most likely unrealistic) case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that greatly effects everything he does. It manifests itself as an obsession with symmetry, the balance of right and left. Most of the time it's done as a humorous piece of the show, from points where Kid passes out during a test after accidentally tearing his paper, or when he berates his weapons, Liz and Patty, for having different sized breasts.

While mostly amusing it does have some serious ramifications on his life. He absolutely cannot break symmetry without going into fits of self loathing that are usually only broken when Liz and Patty pep talk him out of his mania. He refused to destroy a perfectly symmetrical sarcophagus, despite the fact the creature inside was using it's bandages to rip him apart. On the flip side he becomes enraged at anything that is either hideously asymmetrical or anything/one who has destroyed the symmetry of something else. This is often exploited by those who know him, like when Liz pointed out a ball and chain only on one of their enemy's legs to redirect Kid's attention or when Black Star destroyed the symmetry of the school to goad Kid into a battle.

This obsession has some base in the very idea of his kind. As a shinigami he believes himself charged with life and death, and believes that the only way to achieve an ideal world is through balance. It's a belief that is so strong with in him that when he goes mad in the Book of Eibon he latches to the idea of 'nothingness' as perfect balance, beyond symmetry, and decides everything must be destroyed.

Background: Kid is the son of Lord Death (Or Shinigami-sama, depending. As I am terrible at Japanese and watched the dubbed before anything else I'll mostly use those terms here, since it's simpler for me. If accepted I'll stick with whatever the cast at large uses- ANYWAY) and as his son will one day inherit his job and title. Years and years ago Lord Death trapped the kishin under the school building, anchoring his own soul to the city to keep the world safe. The school itself was then formed for this reason, to protect the world from kishins (demon gods) and collect souls straying down that path.

Since Kid was born a reaper/shinigami he did not need to join the school, presumably most of his power was natural and/or above the scope of the school. Kid, however, wanted to do things his own way as a meister, a person who commands a human able to turn into a weapon. Instead of choosing a weapon offered by his father (in a strange sort of arranged marriage kind of set up, though that may have just been Spirit being himself) Kid went out to find a weapon on his own.

It was in this way he met Liz and Patty Thompson, two feared gun weapons that roamed the streets of New York City. They attempted to mug him unsuccessfully, Kid's first chance to see Patty transform. Later he saw Liz transform as the pair was attacked by a large group. The perfectly identical pistols enthralled Kid, who immediately defeated the group threatening them and asked the sisters to become his weapons. They agreed, and over time became a well balanced trio. The sisters respect Kid's dignity, and Kid in return admires the sisters positive and warm attitudes.

Kid eventually joined his father's school, though by strange means. He watched the four students Maka, Soul, Tsubaki and Black Star's remedial lesson with Sid and Stein, mistaking his father's intentions and believing the four would be killed by Stein. When his father mentioned he wasn't even part of the school and couldn't interfere with their lesson Kid countered by saying he'd just enroll then. He left the enrollment to his father and went to help the four. Of course Liz, Patty and Kid never made it to the fight as Kid began to worry he hadn't folded the end of the toilet paper into a triangle and fell into a fit of self loathing on the matter. Derp.

Apparently despite that rather pointless transition Kid still went off to school, though he and his weapons were three hours late due to Kid's need to make sure everything in his house was perfectly in place. When he arrived he met Soul and Black Star for the first time at the entrance. The pair, having heard the rumors of Death's son joining, came to challenge him to a fight. Well, Black Star did, and Soul just went along with it for god knows why. So they fight, a battle that ends fairly quickly due to Kid's strength and the fact that Soul, a scythe weapon, and Black Star, a meister, couldn't match their soul wavelengths and were basically useless together.

The group, Soul, Maka, Black Star, Tsubaki, Liz, Patty and Kid become good friends, often playing basketball or generally being a group of teenagers together. It's around this time things start getting predictably shonen and the big bads start lining up. The witch Medusa is the first, with her son(daughter?)/puppet Crona, a meister whose blood can harden to protect him and who has a weapon in his body. Kid's first dealings with Crona are onboard the ghost ship Nezuheg that Kid and his weapons were sent to inspect, a demon ship that's entire body is controlled by a corrupt soul known as the Flying Dutchman. His fight with the Dutchman was cut short when Crona appears, having Ragnorak, his weapon, devour the human souls the ghost ship was harboring. Crona and Kid fight, Kid doing well despite Crona's defensive abilities, until Crona destroys the ship and retreats. Kid follows but is distracted by the perfect symmetry of the clouds in the sky, letting Crona escape.

Besides the encounter with Crona Kid learns something interesting on the trip, namely that the Dutchmen had been gathering human souls for 'the kishin right beside him.' After the battle Kid asks Patty and Liz to meet him at home and confronts his father on the matter, learning the truth about the kishin Asura that was imprisoned under the castle.

The knowledge weighs on Kid, enough for Maka to remark on his dark look during the big school party to celebrate the anniversary of it's opening. Kid deflects the concern and goes about being his compulsive, terrible dancer self during the festivity. During the party Medusa makes her move, trying to trap everyone at the party, including Lord Death himself, in the room using her crony Free's spacial magic. Sid, one of the teachers, manages to get Kid, Liz, Patty, Maka, Soul, Black Star, Tsubaki and Stein (who also became a professor) out before they couldn't escape. Stein and Kid explain the Kishin, and the group moves to stop Medusa's plans to revive the Kishin.

After meeting up with Spirit, Lord Death's personal weapon who was out of the room at the time, the group finds Medusa. Stein orders the students to go ahead, telling Kid since he had the best mobility to simply keep going as fast as he could to try and stop Medusa's lackeys from getting to the Kishin first. With the help of his flying skateboard (called Beelzebub) Kid manages to pass both Medusa and Crona with relative ease. He runs into trouble along the way, some legitimate and some asymmetrical.

Ultimately they fail to stop the Kishin from being revived. Asura easily knocks both Kid and Black Star out before he escapes, around the time the others still trapped at the party are freed. Lord Death and Asura fight, with Asura again escaping.

With Asura's revival madness begins to overtake the world. It's effects are slow, but enough in the beginning to awaken those sensitive. Arachne, a witch from years and years ago, the one to first create weapons, is revived. Eventually Kid is sent to retrieve a demon artifact from a legendary train before Arachne's forces could get their hands on it. Kid eventually gets to the artifact, after defeating Fisher King, one of Arachne's men. Fisher King questions Kid when Kid states how evil the artifact created by Eibon is, and tells Kid Lord Death and Eibon were much the same. He then directs Kid to look at the inside of where the artifact was found, revealing Eibon's signature along with his father's. Before Kid can get anymore information Fisher is killed by a knife belonging to Sid, who comes on board and congratulates the trio on a job well done. Kid heads back to the camp as directed, though he's obviously troubled by the events.

Kid attempts to learn more about Eibon, assuming that his father will do his normal bit and not answer Kid's questions clearly. He goes to the library and asks for a book on their most secure level, only to learn it had been taken out. The only clue to who it had taken it was the signature M, which Kid assumes is Medusa.

Eventually the main plot really gets underway. The Maka, Black Star Kid group learn to resonate with each other after some issues on Maka and Black Star's part. They're chosen to help in a mission to retrieve an extremely powerful demon artifact, Brew. Brew was trapped in a magnetic field caused by an explosion hundreds of years prior. Stein and Marie go in, but when they take to long to come out Maka, Black Star, Kid and co. go in after them. They emerge in a hologram of the past, seeing both Lord Death and Arachne 800 years prior. After finding and sending Marie and Stein out they take on the mission. Mosquito, one of Arachne's minions, has Brew and the kids attack. At first he's too much, but Soul manages to resonate their souls and Mosquito is nearly defeated. The group unfortunately is forced to flee the field as their time limit runs out.

When they go back Kid asks Black Star how his body handled the field. Black Star states he's fine of course, and Kid says his own body is the body of a shinigami, so there was never a concern on his own health. Upon hearing this Black Star, who is having his own issues at the time, destroys part of the school decoration and thus the school's symmetry to goad Kid into a fight. Kid of course is furious and the two begin their fight. Kid notes that Black Star has changed, and tells
him that he has become weaker. He tells Black Star to stop the fight but Black Star refuses, saying if Kid is death then he should kill him (Black Star.) Kid proceeds to hit Black Star hard and eventually knock him out, wondering what happened to Black Star.

Eventually, after some plot regarding Medusa temporarily siding with the school in order to destroy Arachne, Kid, Maka, and two other students are chosen to be Medusa's bodyguards as they infiltrate Arachne's castle. After getting separated and eventually reunited they proceed to each get assigned a lock to destroy, which would ultimately open Arachne's rooms. Kid is assigned lock 8 (perfectly symmetrical number!) and goes forward. He meets with Free, one of Medusa's men, who was supposed to be going to lock 2 and got lost. They are intercepted by Mosquito, and the pair join forces to defeat him.

At first Free and Kid do well and deal heavy blows, but eventually Mosquito unleashes his true power, managing to rip Kid's arm off. When Mosquito begins insulting his father and the school Kid becomes enraged and Brew, which was ultimately grabbed by Medusa and in turn given to Lord Death to gain his trust, activated. One of the lines in Kid's hair, the Sanzu Lines, connects, and Kid is able to access many of his dormant abilities. He reconnects his arm and nearly defeats Mosquito. While this is happening Free slipped ahead and destroyed the lock, making Mosquito retreat to go protect Arachne.

Kid ends up finding Mosquito speaking with a man he calls Eibon. He calls this Eibon an impostor, and eventually the man reveals his true name to be Noah. He kills Mosquito with alarming ease, and Kid recognizes he doesn't stand a chance against Noah's power. Just as he decides to flee Noah finds him, stating that Kid was a rarity. Noah proceeds to suck Kid into his book, though Kid throws Patty and Liz out of the way before they can be caught as well. Noah leaves the castle with Kid hostage, remarking on the refreshing breeze of insanity Arachne was unleashing.

Kid remains a prisoner in Noah's "collection." He mostly hears their conversations, organizes Noah's book and acts as Gopher's punching bag as he repeatedly insults both Noah and Gopher. He hears of their plans to get Maka's soul and is enraged by it, and this is around the time he'd be taken from.

Why should that character be in this game: For OCs only.

Why do you want to continue their history here: For characters from other games only.

For applicants considering an alternate version of a character already in game, please use this as your chance to explain the key differences between your character and the one already in play:

Have you read up on how the game works?: Flaming Ferret is the system, as for money Kid could go on super exciting missions, most likely ending with symmetrical anarchy. Besides that he could be a mooch and live off the kindness of Soul and Maka or... steal? No that's not right. Permanent job placement. Even though no one in their right mind would take him.

1st person sample: Upon further examination of the ship I must admit it's well suited to it's purpose. I wasn't sure I believed such a city could exist and thrive in this instability, though performing the impossible seems to be a trait of this place, if the stories I've heard so far are true.

I suppose believing the slightly ridiculous makes life aboard this vessel easier, but still... buying a planet? Is it really possible or just an urban legend, a hoax to promote some hope and moral amongst the destitute?

There are a great deal of questions and a shortage of answers all around, I find. Wormholes, flying cities- I'm not sure what to believe anymore.

3rd person sample:

It had been about four hours, not that Kid was counting. In fact he was so absorbed in the task at hand the time seemed to go by in the blink of an eye, and it wasn't until a someone (thing) cleared it's throat nearby that his concentration was broken.

Thus far Kid had no qualms with these "Vogons," if anything their neat and precise ways of dealing with bureaucracy was refreshing. For the most part they ignored him as he worked on his form, going about their business as he assumed was usual. It wasn't until the third hour of Kid still writing in his name on the sheet that they started to get sour.

"Disgusting, worthless- the 'i,' it's still not right! I can't-" He sucked in a breath, trembling at the sheer weight of his failure. "I can't get it's dot the right distance from the base!"

The universal groan from all walks of life that were in the office was lost to him. Perhaps this was his way of dealing with the news, the change, the destruction of his world.

In truth Kid hadn't even thought about it since the paper was first slid in front of him.

Of course as soon as he went to wipe his tears away a drop fell on the page, blurring the first 'e' in Death the Ki- as it made it's home in the paper. It was soon joined by a bloodstain or two as the young shinigami wailed and passed out face first over the paper, to the silence and possible relief of the room around him.
