notes: it's been raining here for a while.

-

it's raining when kyuhyun walks out of his room and into the living room of their dorm. he sees donghae look out the window. he doesn't pay any attention until he's walked to the kitchen, noticing that donghae has been quiet for exactly three minutes and seven seconds. not that he's counting.

"hyung, are you okay?" he hesitates as he speaks, hoping that donghae could hear him.

donghae doesn't turn his head; he just stays there with his eyes glued to the window.

the dancer starts to draw on the glass, streaking clear lines through a fogged up canvas. kyuhyun watches him as he draws a heart before pressing his finger hard at the point where the two top curves meet, watching a droplet of water slip down in a crooked path. donghae was never a good artist.

"look, kyuhyun." donghae finally turns around to look at kyuhyun and gestures to the drawing in front of him, finally done with it. "my heart, it's broken."

kyuhyun never knew donghae was so poetic.

"why did you break your own heart?" kyuhyun's voice is soft and mellow, as usual.

donghae is silent for a moment, and kyuhyun's eyes catch donghae's, noting the glossy sheen in them. donghae turns around, not facing kyuhyun anymore, but at the broken heart that's fading away.

kyuhyun knows donghae cries. donghae cries a lot, but kyuhyun has hardly ever witnessed it in person unless they were tears of joy.

"my heart is empty."

the magnae is rendered speechless.

donghae tilts his head back, takes a deep breath, and turns back to kyuhyun with a forced smile on his face. kyuhyun still doesn't know what to say and licks his lips a little to help him come up with something, anything, because he absolutely hates donghae so lonely and so broken.

"sit next to me, kyu." donghae pats the empty space next to him at the window, looking down at his socks.

"i can't." kyuhyun accidentally blurts out very fast and very forcefully, like he's unable to stop himself all of a sudden. "i have an interview soon, so i need to leave now."

silence.

kyuhyun gulps. this is the second time within fifteen minutes that donghae has been quiet, and that hardly ever happens. ever.

"oh." donghae's voice is almost inaudible to kyuhyun. "oh, okay."

then kyuhyun leaves - more like runs out the door - and leaves donghae by himself.

-

when kyuhyun comes back, he finds that donghae is still in the same spot he was earlier.

"hyung?"

"hmm?" donghae responds from his place, still not turning around.

kyuhyun doesn't say anything after that because he doesn't know what to say. he's never been a good conversation starter.

he takes off his jacket and hangs it on the coat hanger near by before walking towards donghae and looking down at the empty space next to the older male. he swallows his saliva - why was he so nervous? - and forces himself to talk.

"is this seat taken?"

donghae smiles a genuine smile and pats the space like he did when he first offered and kyuhyun sits down across from donghae, also looking outside. he lifts his hand up and draws a big heart with his right index finger before letting time split his own heart in two. donghae watches in curiosity.

"why break yours, kyu?" donghae has that smile again - the one that kyuhyun thinks makes him look so beautiful but so hurt, the only one that kyuhyun never wants to see on his face.

"it's not broken." kyuhyun's initial answer is simple, but he starts to explain. "it's my heart waiting for another to complete it."

as he talks, he writes 조규현 on the right half slowly, taking his time. when he's done, he watches as his name starts to drip but pays no heed, moving to the left half with some difficulty. he scribbles 이동해 onto the empty space with his somewhat messy penmanship.

"there." kyuhyun sounds accomplished.

donghae isn't as shocked as the magnae thought he would be. he just smiles the smile that kyuhyun loves and moves his hand closer to kyuhyun, finally putting it on top of the younger's. it's not perfect; the heart is uneven, the division line is crooked, the hangul is messy, and now it's dripping all over the place, but it's theirs.

it feels so right.

"i like that better than my broken heart." donghae comments and kisses kyuhyun, whose smile presses against his lips.
