Conundrum

We were told in a meeting yesterday, that we are no longer allowed to talk about politics at work. Not 'not at work' like on the floor or with customers, but 'not at work' as in with other coworkers in the privacy of the breakroom or whatever. The more I think about this, the more it bothers me. It makes me think that an employee got offended and complained. Instead of getting one person getting singled out the bosses just made some blanket rule. But that's dumb. If someone doesn't like talking about politics, they should just excuse themselves from the conversation.

If it's NOT related to a specific complaint, then it doesn't make any sense at all. Maybe employees are spending too much time chatting than working?

Anyway, sorry. That sucks.

No, someone got offended and complained. Which makes me think:

If someone is being religiously or politically offensive/evangelical/belligerent or whatever, then that person is an idiot and needs to be reprimanded.

But, if someone is offended by the mere existence of religious or political discourse that may diverge from their own personal beliefs, then that person is an easily-offendable asshole. And that's their problem, not everybody else's. Right?
