You know how to shut down someone who gets huffy if you say "Happy Holidays?" Wait for a reaction, then stop and say, "Since I don't know you, Happy Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Solstice, Saturnalia Birthday, Anniversary...." And continue as long as you can. They'll usually get the picture.

While I understand why they're all huffy, they've got to unclench and realize that they live in a melting pot.

Yep, I've done that one. Most of the people reacted with a "Ok, you can stop now." Only one person got pissed off and lectured me on how those other aren't real holidays because they are celebrated by blacks, Atheists, etc. She didn't even accept "Happy Holidays" = "Happy Thanksgiving, X-mas, and New Year's." It was all about X-mas to her.
