WTF USA?

I'm lost for words, I'm in tears actually.

How is this possible?

How, after all the years of suffrage, sacrifice, deaths and fighting can the message still be "The only good woman is one who's barefoot, pregnant and chained to the kitchen sink."?  How the fuck does anyone get the idea that an 'unfeminine' girl, one who doesn't want armfuls of babies ( Read more... )

It is. It's like something from the Fifties. I hoped people of your age could grow up in a world where you'd never be told you were second best, but... ugh.

It's sickening isn't it? That's why it's taken me so long to even pull my head out of my arse and reply to anything, because I've just felt numb about so many things.

Whoa. Thanks for posting this. I hadn't heard about it.

Both the recent Time article and the bioethics op-ed that links to it are good reads. Dr. New is a piece of work. I hope she gets in trouble. However she's also got to be getting close to retirement age (she got a B.A. in 1950, so she has to be pushing 65), so I bet if she gets too much heat she'll just say she was retiring anyway.

But yeah, there are still many conservative young women with very traditional views of gender roles. They'll have no qualms about signing up for a "trial" of dexamethasone even as they scold lesbians, tomboys, and deliberately childfree women for the "choices" they made to be "abnormal", "deviant" or whatever.

Thanks for the links. The thing that gets me about this whole debacle is that dex only has a likelihood of curbing genital malformation, that's all. It won't prevent any of the serious complications like dying of salt-wastage, and the kids will still need treatment their whole lives.

I keep hoping this is like Life on Mars and I've woken u in the bloody Sixties or something.

I don't know anyone, male or female, who daydreamed of looking after babies.

Sheesh. It was bad enough to find out that the reason I was procreated was to be someone for my brother to play with as a kid, but now I find out that I should have been changed hormonally before I was born?

Anyway. Back to the kitchen and looking after the kids and doing housework. WHICH I DO!!! while being 100% not feminine and daydreaming about having hot lesbian sex. I would really screw up this "doctors" research.

Yep, we're freaks and should be treated as such. I posted on reddit that I wanted to airlift as many LGBT people as possible out of the U.S. Never thought Britain could be seen as a beacon for much of anything, but at least the State here recognises that we're human beings.

Ideal response :D BTW you are completely kicking arse in lady_arsehole's sf_d post. I fucking love you. Curse your manliness, my dykeosomes, and the fact that planes would shred the clouds if I flew to you!

Hahah what an amazingly amusing scenario that would be. It would certainly fuck with a few Neo-Con heads!

I was going to unleash some rage and I just thought "Mr Fantastic has it covered, you can just eat pills and read now". Then I picked up (well loaded up) The Purity Myth. YAY I'M ALL RAGEY AGAIN! :D
