You made it all the way up here (ok, a lot farther north than before) and didn't mention you were coming! Not that it would have done much good since I was out of town that weekend. Your description sounds a lot like a trip I did a couple of years ago over to the west side of the state - areas I hadn't been, no specific plan, and lots of things not going quite the way I'd envisioned. :) It ended up being a pretty good trip anyway, and I hope yours was too. You got some good pictures and looks like you had some good weather along with the bad. Can't really ask for much more up there. :) Sounds like you're learning some 4x4ing the hard way (often the only way), but you've had relatively good luck so far
( ... )
I'm surprised you don't already do this, but always, always, ALWAYS keep a spare key in your wallet. The odds of your wallet and keys both being locked in your car are minuscule. It's saved my ass five times now, at least.
You should do what I do with impatient tailgaters: slow down until they get pissed off and pass you. If you do 5-10 under, most of them flip out and swerve around you within a minute or two.
Pictures of your trips always remind me of my youth spent in Vermont. Lower mountains, but all covered with green, unlike the stark (but also beautiful) peaks you've captured in these photos.
