CURRENT ATMOSPHERE: stable (normal)WEATHER: overcast PLANE IN EFFECT: purgatory
NUADORIA
The central port city serving that once served as the capital to the current last royal empire, this is the main location of the game Absolute x Threshold. Nuadoria was once a thriving trade city and home to the royal family as well as the four war generals/personal bodyguards to the family, the Magister Militum. One (current game timeline: Three) years ago, the city suffered from a civil war between the four magisters, the end result leaving the city wasted, the population deceased, and the seal cracked, allowing for a time continuum shift barrier to form about the outer perimeter of the city (including outer structures beyond its walls). Preserved in this space time anomaly, odd occurrences have been happening, ranging from monsters known as Childs to appear as the city shifts appearances from one of normalcy to decay, atmosphere changes causes hallucinations and adverse physical affects, but most importantly dragging in unsuspecting individuals from other worlds and other times into the city for an unknown purpose. Whatever has been bringing the individuals seems to do so indiscriminately, although there may be a common connection yet to be found.
While the city is deserted other than for the few natives left, the individuals pulled into the city, and the monsters that roam between the city "planes" (more info can be found on Nuadoria's planes
here), there are several locations that still exist from the time the city once thrived. Some of these areas are currently accessible, others are not. Some have been available in the past or will become available in the future either temporarily or permanently (PCs are responsible for the appearance/disappearances of some areas). Below is a current list of areas, not all discovered, although there may be more as well.
( THE ARCHIVES )
ZONE: Green → Red.
Located at the southwest corner of the city, the archives boast of the largest and only collection of books in Nuadoria. The books range from history to self-help in topic but go no further than the natives' world history in origin. Caim, the Ice Magister, frequents here, which means the other natives can be found here at various points as well depending on their agenda with the youngest magister. Most of the time, this is a peaceful spot to relax, however half the archives do fall within a red zone. Despite its intended use, it has been the most destroyed structure in Nuadoria, suffering two three demolitions since the arrival of the foreigners. It has an automated guardian that resembles the Omega Weapon of the Final Fantasy VII Home World: Gaia that is controlled by LILITH, the Network Admin.
Including Cherubim, which is the sacred room needing to be accessed prior to Seraphim, the Underground is a large underground cavern and labrynth beneath the archive's lowest levels. Here, monsters nest and roam freely, making this a highly dangerous area. However, considering it gives access to Cherubim and the Seraphim rooms of each elemental plane can be accessed from the same point within the Underground, the reward is high. Whether the risk is worth such a high reward is within the eye of the beholder. Atmospheric Pressure Levels vary here depending on which position in the area one is, but overall the air is more dense than it is above ground.
The sacred room used to access Sefirah, the branch plane where all the other planes remain connected together as one. It is rumored that Minerva's Seal is located here, although there seems to be no proof as very few people have ever set foot in Sefirah. It's possible that it doesn't exist at all, although the natives harbor very strong belie

( THE FOUNTAIN )
ZONE: Green.
Though currently demolished and in shambles until Nuadoria experiences the regeneration plane, the light fountain marks the center of Nuadoria. All that remains of a once great piece of architecture are broken stones and rubble, ruined by a force beyond comprehension. The fountain was often a meeting area for friends and family when Nuadoria thrived and served a similar purpose to the foreigners. A complete safe zone, its unique simplistic design was done by an unknown architect from a nearby town. One of the few constant light sources, it's a shame that he is not around to fix it.
( RESIDENTIAL AREA )
ZONE: Green.
South of the fountain is a variety of old, Victorian-style buildings that serve as a residential area for many of the city's inhabitants; some taken, some not. Despite the ghost town status of Nuadoria (and the somewhat feel of "medieval" times), these housing facilities are fully furnished, complete with modern amenities such as sinks with running water and electricity. There is no need to see anyone about living anywhere, just simply take a vacant apartment and make the best of it. Some of the city inhabitants, natives included, have decided to set up shops around the neighborhood.
An abandoned Victorian styled bar that was once the gathering place for many of Nuadoria's inhabitants. Doors are locked without a key in sight. If one looks in the windows, they may be able to make out the simplistic design of the bar setting. Although still tidy, dust has settled all over the once clean bar; but there is still a neat line of aged alcohol just behind the bar. It was run by foreigner Tifa Lockhart.
A sign just below the shop's name reads: "BEWARE CRAZY PEOPLE.
" (Someone is a little protective and someone else is too short to get it down herself.) Run by one of the natives, Einín (Nina), this shop specializes in fixing, upgrading, and appraising weapons of all variety. It also serves as a temporary and secondary residence of Nina and Lawfer, and the home of many (if not daily) arguments and pranks.

( THE SEWERS )
ZONE: Green.
Though access is restricted by normal means, according to the Yggdrasil Network's information files, a hidden path just south of the residential district will allow entrance. Its underground passageways branch out all over the city of Nuadoria, making it ideal for thieves and those who wish to disappear quickly, but even when Nuadoria is safe, there are dangers here. It's rumored in the files that
two old friends to some lurk beneath the waters. Although all pathways are open, with some winding and disorienting leading back to their starting point, one path in particular leads to a place where even the bravest do not dare tread.
( PORT DOCKS )
ZONE: Green.
Rather modern looking port, complete with large container cranes suggesting Nuadoria had itself rooted in heavy trade before its disaster. While there is only one ship now, the docks still light up at night as if being used and during the overcast and foggy days, fog lights are also present. There are a few open warehouses here and the Task Force Headquarters, which is once again in Commodore Smoker's charge. Other than that, however, the docks seem to be rather uninteresting. They do provide an alternative entrance to the sewers.
Commodore Smoker's office and home of Task Force base operations, the HQ is located in one of the various warehouses that occupies the port. There is usually at least one Task Force member at any given time within the vicinity making it a very difficult place to explore in secrecy. The Task Force is Nuadoria's only Law and Order system and enforcement, as the Magisters have made it clear they can not and will not interfere with affairs between those brought to the city, for better or for worse.

( THE CITY GATE )
ZONE: Red.
The only (obvious) entrance and exit to the city. Unlike traditional setups to most cities, upon entering the city, the gates precede the bridge. While there is nothing fascinating about the gates, they're always open and welcoming during the day, despite what they may be inviting their visitor to. At night, they are closed by some unknown force, although they can be manually opened if one wished to passed through at such a time. As part of the red zone, individuals should be careful here as hallucinations of returning home are especially high just before exiting out into the fields.
( RUINA BRIDGE )
ZONE: red → ? ? ?
After the city gate extends a long bridge (or before it if you are coming from within the city) disappearing into a gray heavy mist. The From the side of the bridge or at an angle it is possible to see that this fog concentrates in the center and becomes thinner once traveling closer to either end of the bridge. Although the bridge is railed for protection caution is advised as the database warns of monsters and other dangers possibly hidden under the cover of silver mist.
A simple guard's station accompanied by a watchtower accessible by ladder. It is the highest point in the city, and those wishing to look over the entire area would find the best view from the top of the watchtower. However, this area lies in a heavily influenced atmosphere zone, making it difficult to tell if what one sees is an illusion or reality.
What replaces a moat under the bridge, a mysterious ravine that doesn't seem to be natural. Looking down is darkness as far as the eye can see and the sides of the steep drop look as smooth as glass. If someone were to fall down there. . . even if they were to survive, how would they get out?

( CHURCH )
ZONE: Green.
Located just north of the fountain and south of the warehouse, the church has often served as a safehouse for those that have needed it. A small flower garden surrounds the building, with stone benches here and there underneath a few rare trees.
( WAREHOUSE )
ZONE: yellow
North of the fountain lies a small convenience store, mysteriously stocked with food and supplies. Further investigation unveils an underground warehouse full of stock of just about anything needed for survival in terms of food, cleaning supplies, clothes, and other sanitary necessities. Weapons are not available.
( CASINO [ABANDONED] )
ZONE: Green.
A rather unusual addition to Nuadoria that appeared one evening and has yet to disappear since. Although currently housing no patrons, it is rumored the four god generals (Prithvi, Phalanx, Azmeth, and Cthulhu) roam this place from time to time. Curious visitors may or may not get a chance to meet with them.
Several murders took place here (which some PCs are still on the hunt for the murderer after all this time), but the casino shows no signs of such an event. (When the Regeneration Plane is in effect, this place magically comes to life with various activity. When the Otherworld Plane is, this place becomes an asylum of terror.)
( WIND DAM )
ZONE: ? ? ? → ? ? ?
An unusual structure that from a distance looks as if it has no entrance or exit, however up close there is a tunneled skywalk that leads out onto the wind dam, allowing access into the inner core. The characters have visited here once, and only once, as it's quite difficult to get to on one's own accord (but not impossible). There's a large snake that calls this place its home and it doesn't like visitors.
( INNER FIELDS )
ZONE: ? ? ?
Just beyond the city gates lies an open field, littered with war remnants (broken weapons, disgarded armor pieces, singed ground, etc.). The grass here has mostly become matted and yellowed if not eroded away completely from overuse and neglect, although a few green patches still exist. There are no trees between the city gate and the forest in the distance, making it ideal for travel. Enemies are far and few between, but those that exist are much easier to see due to the lack of visual obstructions. Walking at a fair pace without stopping, it takes approximately a half to three-quarters of an hour to cross the fields, starting from the city gates and ending at the forest.
( WOODLIGHT FOREST )
ZONE: ? ? ?
A beautiful lush forest that separates Nuadoria from the mainland and its cathedral, it is a natural boundary of protection for the city. However, as Nuadoria stands, the forest acts as a fence more than anything. And, with all the dangers within, there isn't much left to the imagination on what could lurk outside of Nuadoria's boundaries. Curious adventurers usually find themselves increasingly disoriented as they explore the forest until they pass out, reawakening somewhere back in the city (at random).
At the center of Woodlight forest is an area where all the trees come together, twisting and bending to form what looks like an open church. Althought Woodlight Forest is disorienting and ultimately uninviting to the traveler, some are lucky enough to stumble upon this Forest Church. It is a sanctuary: no hostile creatures appear (you might see a unicorn or two, though) and there is no adverse effects on the senses. Characters can stay here for days without the effects of the forest affecting them, however once stepping back outside its radius will be subject to the forest's power once more. There is a small fountain here that is said if water from it is drank that any ailment or wound can be cured or healed, including insanity effects caused by the zones within Nuadoria.
Within the forest to the east not too far in (close enough to get to before passing out in the forest on a trip) are the ruins of what looks to have once been a temple. While its full of crumbling architecture and entering and exploring may be hazardous due to the decomposing construction and monsters that have made their home there, it is clear this was once a temple of worship to a forest god. While not free of the effects of the forest, while inside the temple, the onset of the effects of dizziness, disorientation, etc. are slowed. It's unknown what else is in this temple other than it being a place of worship, but there is a book that is rumored to have powerful lost spells and magic arts locked away here. It is one of three temples, the fire and water temples currently in unknown locations. (However, the Water Temple is believed to be underwater and the Fire Temple is believed to be located somewhere near the dam).

( CATHEDRAL )
ZONE: ? ? ?
Our Lady's Cathedral, according to library manuscripts. A large, grand cathedral designed with the utmost reverence in mind. This cathedral was built for worship, although seems to have several other purposes, including a safehaven and a portal. There are various doors that lead to different places located here, including ones that lead to different planes while they are inactive and to other areas outside of the cocoon that Nuadoria is wrapped in. This is the entrance/exit points for accessing the outer world (the four cardinal capitals amongst them) and the Divine Plane, Keter. Although this place serves as a safehaven to most monsters, higher ranked childs (Class B and above) are able to roam, thus still making this place quite dangerous in times of their presence.
( THE NECROPOLIS )
ZONE: yellow → ? ? ?
The City of the Dead. Not much is mentioned in the database files or the archives, despite an incident where several foreigners were required to trespass. Initially, what is said is standard definition: a large underground area dedicated as the resting place for the many deceased of Nuadoria. But then it goes on to report eyewitnesses tellings of monster sightings different than the childs (although they, too, reside here). They're said to be of various undead types, very powerful, and (possibly) indestructible. With no other information, the only fact that can hold up this claim is that the Necropolis was once considered out of Magister jurisdiction and they still will currently not tread there unless absolutely necessary. And even then. ? ? ?
( PRISON [ABANDONED] )
ZONE: yellow
Located near the entrance to the sewers, this prison is a rather large abandoned building residing in a yellow zone. Most people don't go exploring, but if one were to dare such a place, they may be in for a surprise. Particularly at night. This prison was used to house the criminally insane rather than using traditional dungeons. It was thought that keeping them separated from others was a safety measure to themselves as well as other prisoners. Needless to say, there may be a spirit or two wandering about if you believe in those things.
( CRATER )
ZONE: ? ? ? → ? ? ?
Located on the outskirts of the city to the south, this crater is remnant of an event that happened a few years ago. A man named Sephiroth managed to use his own powers to manipulate an artifact from home and summon a small meteor (which was a spell of his homeworld as well). Although not as damaging as the real thing, the city suffered damage as well as the Purgatory Plane. It was up to the PCs to resolve the issue and stabilize the plane. Grass has grown over the mysteriously much shallower crater that once penetrated so deep something hidden beneath the surface could be seen. ? ? ?
( MINERVA'S SEAL )
ZONE: ? ? ?
Minerva's Seal, the source of the reasoning behind the schism of the Magisters and the one at fault for Nuadoria's destruction. Very little is actually known about the seal, even in terms of what the natives know. Most of it is legend and speculation. Even the Magisters, the supposed guardians of the seal, have only ever seen it physically once (and the youngest has not seen it at all). While it's location is said to be on a different plane all together that lies within the Purgatory Plane, the actual physical manifestation of the seal's whereabouts are unknown.
