So, having talked to Ryan over the weekend and have happily heard from Grace, plans for this weekend look to be quite nicely set!

Here is the menu with notes:
Spotted Dog: need to look into suet and currents, and equipment
Roast Chicken: executive decision to replace chicken livers with more ham
Salt Pork/Virginia Cured Ham: cheat method, perhaps, but ( Read more... )

"Gooseberry Fool: well, gooseberries may be replaced with another berry or fruit. Maybe jam?"

I've heard very good things about using frozen berries in recipes, actually. Apparently if frozen in a certain way (flash frozen, I think?) they are as good as fresh berries, and cheaper.

What a good idea, thanks. Any news on the pickles?

They are pickling as we speak. :-) I'll give one a try in a day or two and see how it is; if they are icky, I have another pickle recipe provided to me by aefenglommung which can be done in a day, so I have a backup plan. :-)

I was planning on stopping by my house to get stuff before coming over, so I can pick up Doubles Chess. Do I need to pick up alcohol too? what CDs do you want? You have a lot more period stuff than I do.

hm, present. does it have instructions? I may need to take a little trip if we want it to be a surprise...

OT: will you be around over Thanksgiving? Diane just asked if we want to go to the city for dinner Fri or Sat night.

Stuff: Alcohol, I had forgotten that. Red Wine, if possible, Rum is needed for certain. CDs is actually addressed to Ryan, who ownes some themed CDs.

Thanksgiving, yes. My sister will be here for at least part of it, and I will probably have my usual meeting with Mygatt and Peter dear, but yes, dinner would be nice.

Ah, I missed that! Actually, I don't own the CDs because I got them from iTunes, and unfortunately do not have a CD burner. :-( However, I'm bringing my laptop anyway, and it has the music on it, although its speakers aren't terribly loud.

I can always disconnect my massive 5-speaker set from my TV, or we'll plug your laptop into my godparent's magificant house speaker system. It shouldn't be a problem, I think.

The meal sounds great and I wish you and your friends joy of it.
I have also received your mail, but I'm afraid it will be weekend until I have the chance to reply.
