Due to my dad listening to Rush Limbaugh when I lived with my parents (*shudder,*) and me not yet having someone fully explain feminist theory to me, I feel left in the dark.
What exactly _is_ it? Is it synonymous with gender studies? Does it deal mainly with female social power in male dominated societies?
It deals with a large body of theory that includes gender studies. Feminist theory's main goal is establishing equality, not just for the sexes, but for every social group. A lot of feminism has to do with identifying how certain social constructs oppress women, and by recognizing it, trying ot change it.
As far as it applies to literature, feminists critical theory mainly tries to identify how these same social constructs that limit women take part in creating literary works.
