Even when everything has come and gone, Kihyun wears the ring on his finger. He fiddles with it when he's bored, when he's tired, when he's anxious. The only time he doesn't fiddle with it is when he's with Hoseok. It's then that he can touch his boyfriend, his lover, the man he will spend the rest of his life with, however short or long it is.
The ring symbolizes their relationship, the union they have that the world refuses to acknowledge. Or at least their part of the world. Inside the band of the ring are their names, Yoo Kihyun and Shin Hoseok. The outside of the ringer is covered in delicate patterns they both drew, that took hours to engrave. Their rings match, but people seldom comment on it. Kihyun has never cared to ask why.
The rings are not who they are, but they do bind them together. They represent a promise, a contract, a wedding that took place in another country and isn't real here. The rings are glue, they are love, they are everything and they are also simply rings.
Without the ring, Kihyun would still be everything he is to Hoseok. But with the ring, he also has a reminder. A weight on his hand that reminds him that he is not a lone. That he is loved.
