Why is it that vegetarian's are constantly provoked?  I don't know how many times that I've heard, "Vegetables have feelings, too."  or "That's why animals are on the planet to begin with so we can eat them." or "It's the cirlce of life."  Blah blah blah.  I don't care about any of that.  I love meat, a big old juicy filet was my most favorite meal ( Read more... )

Yay!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've noticed this phenomenon, too - What does everyone have against vegetarians?! I don't get it. I was a vegetarian for 6 years for the very reasons you've stated (plus, I just don't like red meat very much and it's not very good for you, in fact). The reactions I would get from people were unbelievable - "What? I didn't think you were one of THOSE types of people." As if, I thought you were cool/normal. Ew. What's wrong with you?

I don't know what your spiritual beliefs are, but something inside me tells me that there's something very bad about eating the flesh of a being that was treated inhumanely while alive. I started eating meat a bit more a few years ago, but I'm thinking of cutting it out entirely, again.

I don't understand why others are so defensive about someone else's eating habits and beliefs. It's your body and not eating meat isn't hurting anyone. Oh well.

Or another thing that gets me is when they're eating meat and they say, "mmmmm this is soooooo good." or when they're eating chicken and they start making chicken noises or when they eat red meat and they start mooing. So unnecessary.

Yes, I don't get the defensive, ridiculous reactions like those that you mention. I'm not judging them for eating meat - Why must they judge me for my preferences?

Perhaps because eating meat and being concerned about the humane treatment of weaker beings is considered a 'weakness' by many. Hence, the tendency to bully and make fun of vegetarians or others who display some sort of perceived 'weakness'. In fact, it takes much more strength to be humane towards one weaker than yourself. THis is just stupidity and ignorance. *sigh*
