I should mention that I've never seen "Firefly," the TV show that spawned Serenity.  The script stood on it's own.

It's better than Star Wars, better than Star Trek, better than any movie with the word "star" in the title.  I was halfway expecting the sort of disappointment I felt when I saw The Fifth Element, which was all special effects and no story or believable characters.  A few critics have compared this movie to the first Star Wars, but they're wrong.  ( Read more... )

I'm back from Fontana (LA), California, after three weeks of training.  I'm now a Schneider National employee.  I still have a week of training or more to go, but there's a shortage of over-the-road trainers, so I have to wait for their call.  I'm still getting paid $300 a week to sit around, though ( Read more... )

Went back to the DOL and passed 2 out of 3 tests; failed miserably on the last one, regarding hazardous materials.  So if you see me driving a semi with a trailer full of dynamite, try not to cut me off, ok?

I passed the test for the CDL permit--but I just found out I need to take three more tests.  Great.

More studying.

Installing anything in linux requires:

1. Searching for and downloading software source code
2. Compiling the source code
3. Smoking a couple of packs of cigarettes while waiting for the source code to compile
4. Sacrificing to pagan gods, to appease them that they might allow the source code to compile without errors
5. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth

1. Yellowjacket enters bedroom and buzzed around, then flies to window.
2. Swatted at yellowjacket with rolled up paper.  Missed
3. Swatted again, this time apparently squishing the thing's brain, causing it to act all retarded as it flies into window repeatedly.
4. Swatted again.  Guts aplenty.  Yellowjacket is convulsing in window rail.
