Overall Thoughts
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I think I wrote a lot, but definitely less than I expected to write. If you read my stuff a lot, like Jesustoast, you'd probably notice that I tend to write really convoluted-well, maybe that has too much of a negative connotation?-and complicated plotlines. I'm not sure whether it's a weakness or not? But because I was writing for so many fic exchanges with so many deadlines and also school pressure, I was forced to write many of these plotlines omitting intricacies I'd previously wanted to thread in to cut the wordcount for the time constraint, and to make the plot easier for myself to process in a short period of time. So I think if I'd given more time to a lot of these fics, I would probably have written at least 100k this year, if not double the current amount.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Baekhyun/Yixing, I think.
What's your own favorite story of the year?
Gods Are Like Stars (Born Dying) or
(What Could Have Happened) On Three-Oh-Eight Winchester Did you take any writing risks this year?
Well... I did... participate in every fic exchange before this school year so... That counts... Also, running Kaisoommer was terrifying. And I always feel that my plots are kinda complicated and in way over my head, so I guess that counts.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?
Write at least one vaguely normal people story? Try to write some actual fluff instead of everyone fucking dies all the time. Also, finish my novel and get something else published. Preferably a flash-fiction I've been meaning to write for a bit.
From my past year of writing, what was...:
My best story of this year: Gods Are Like Stars or Winchester
My most popular story of this year: Darling, Erase These Lines (I think?)
The story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Winchester or Gods are Like Stars
The most fun story to write: Darling, Erase These Lines
The story with the single sexiest moment: [name redacted bc not reveals yet!]
The most "holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Darling, Erase These Lines
The story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Gods or Winchester
The hardest story to write: Gods Are Like Stars
The biggest disappointment: Dark City
The biggest surprise: Love in Decibel Zero
The most unintentionally telling story: Gods or Papier-mâché Mephistopheles
Favorite Opening Line(s):
"WAR WAS NEVER DEADLIER is what the reporter on the radio tells Yixing at oh-five-hundred, when the commander storms into the barracks lugging a gallon of ice-cold water to pour over him and his bunk partner." - Love in Decibel Zero
Favorite Closing Line(s):
"And then he stands, straightening up and breathing deep, testing the weight of a city on his shoulders." - Dark City, Silent God
“Morning, you idiot. I told you I wouldn’t have to say goodbye.” - Gods Are Like Stars
Favorite 5 Lines from Anywhere:
"In the dumpster behind him, there are two dead men split between five trash bags, buried under three inches of dry grass. Between his lips, there is an unlit cigarette; in his pocket, a lighter, almost empty." - Three-Oh-Eight Winchester
"Kyungsoo had felt the world end in an explosion of darkness, felt the ground shake beneath him as the earth quaked and the buildings crumbled to the floor in chunks of solid concrete and bent metal, heard electricity crackling out from wires and dissipating into the water flooding out of the drains beneath the sidewalk." - Three-Oh-Eight Winchester
"At this particular end, Kyungsoo thinks as he walks down the hallway, the world will fall apart before him. He imagines a great city collapsing, lights flashing, electricity fizzing between wires ripped in half, zapping people. In the thunder, thick clouds above his head like black smoke dancing over burnt cotton, he will hear something deep and resonant grumble in ironic petulance, taste cold honey as it drips from the sky with decadent languor." - Three-Oh-Eight Winchester
"“Wheee!” the scrotum squeals. It throws itself down the staircase, tumbling all the way to the bottom. Kyungsoo sighs and takes the steps, one by one." - Darling, Erase These Lines
"They’re not the same, he thinks, eyelids fluttering shut as Kyungsoo’s soft chanting of words fades in and out of the background. He took the painkillers. They are no longer the same." - Gods Are Like Stars
Top 5 Scenes from Anywhere You Would Choose to Have Illustrated:
- The part where Kyungsoo thinks about the world falling apart with all the electric fizzling and everything in Three-Oh-Eight Winchester.
- The scene in Darling, Erase These Lines, in Kyungsoo's dream when he looks in the mirror and: "A pile of human body parts starts in the sloshing green acid of his stomach and reaches up, up, up, almost right back out of his throat. At the very bottom, bubbling inside the bile-colored liquid, is the severed ear he found in his sink four weeks back-the one that he never ate. And on top of it is everything else: half-curled, twisted up fingers scattered among bits of lung, chopped up pieces of heart still beating and sloshing blood over the other innards and outards in pulsing waterfalls, crushed bone, sinewy veins, optic nerves, spinal cords, chunks of brain, what looks like a dissected scrotum, bruised eyeballs and all these things, every part of a human imaginable to the subconscious mind, that Dr. Kim might have fed him."
- The ending scene in Dark City when Luhan stands up in the middle of the secret library, with Baekhyun and Chanyeol and Minseok dead around him.
- In Gods Are Like Stars, when Jongin is lying in bed and all the lights are off and he sees the analog clock on the wall come to life with its glass teeth and weird smiling face.
- In Tequila Sunrise, when Kyungsoo finds Luhan in the vent pipe thing.
Fic-writing goals for 2015: Not writing under so many ridiculous time constraints so I can actually feel like I did the best I could for the writing I post, lmao.
