lately i have been replacing any synonym of "repulsive" with "medieval" because the words really are interchangeable. you should read about their bowel culture--absolutely disgusting. for example, it was somebody's job to walk around the streets with some sort of pail. he could be identified by his large cloak. people would pay him for his services: he'd set the pail down in the middle of the street, surround his client with his cloak and business was taken care of.
