I need an alarm clock, since my phone's alarm clock function is not reliable. By which I mean it works sometimes, and not other times, with no discernible rhyme or reason as to why

I always buy cheap chinese import alarm clocks in the shape of cartoon cahracters from the local markets, but I'm not sure if the same sort of thing is available where you are.

Nice! Astro boy always reminds me of a trip to Japan I took with Odn where we ate at the Mighty Atom rotating sushi restaurant. Which was pleasingly working class and non-froofy, just tons of cheap, pretty good quality sushi that kept circling the chef like the rings of Saturn.

I was thinking to myself as I posted about this, "I need a source of cheap Chinese kitsch." I'm afraid I don't know of one in Miami, but it's got to be out there.

Try the local flea markets, yours a more likely to be flooded with hispanics than asians but I bet your bottom dollar there's an elderly chinese man with a table full of toys soemwhere.
