I liked this more than I thought I would. The bits with Yaz, Dan and Jericho were what I want from Doctor Who: fun, exciting adventures, without bombast or Time Lord mythology. The Grand Serpent seems a more tangible menace than Swarm and Azure somehow.

OTOH, the Lethbridge-Stewart vocal cameo was awful - how could he be a corporal in 1967? (Or at all, really - I assume he went to Sandhurst and trained as a CO straight off.) Badly thought out in-jokes destroy good will rather than build it. And the Doctor's mother? Even RTD shied away from that one (The End of Time). Corny, plus it destroys mystery without adding much.

I feel this season has been a mix of the good and bad and I'm hoping that the final episode will come down on the side of the good.
