Overexposed much?

I am so. fucking. sick. of Madeline McCann.

She's one kid, thousands of people, even children, are kidnapped, murdered and all sorts every year. It's pissing me off that there's so much media hype about this particular one, just because she's cute and her parents can't face facts: she's been raped, murdered and disposed of - you'd have to be ( Read more... )

I know what you mean.. quite a big deal of it is being made in Japan, which is weird because it has absolutely nothing to do with Japan? Hmmm....

Yes, it's awful, but as you said, lots of things like this happen and the media doesn't make a big fuss over them. Bleh.

A lot of this story has passed me by, as I'm staying in the US currently, and it's not been huge on the news here. But, as I said to someone the other day, what I don't understand in all this are the celebrities that are getting involved, offering reward money and such. Why this little girl? Why is she worth X million? Where were these celebs when Sarah Payne went missing, for example?

I completely agree with you. Yes, the fact that Madeline has gone missing is rather awful, but the whole situation has been blown out of proportion. It's already a high profile case - why do we need people like David Beckham getting involved?

A sunflower seed thief, eh? How random!

Yeah, I'm really sorry you're in a bad mood, but this is an awful post. Can you actually be saying that it's wrong or even SURPRISING that her parents want everyone to think of nothing else? I don't think that perspective exactly comes into it. They believe, or they want to believe, that she's still alive. If she's NOT, finding out sooner will probably help that catch the killer sooner, hopefully before he does it again. I don't presume to know what they're feeling, but from what I can gather, they're trying to keep up the search and keep themselves from breaking down, not least because they have two other children. It's worth remembering that Soham - which DID attract the same hysteria - was over much faster; it could easily have developped (sp?) the same way ( ... )

I think there's something we're all overlooking here...

...who in the world steals three kilos of sunflower seeds?! Someone illegally breeding a super gerbil army?

I did wonder that. My thoughts were basically - if someone is that desperate for 3 kilos of sunflower seeds, let him have them! He's clearly got much bigger problems in his life than we can comprehend. Especially considering everything in the store is half price, so if he'd bought them, they would have been about £4 for the lot.

My BF very knowledgably informs me that a lot of people use them to wean themselves off smoking. But then how much must that guy have been smoking before??

I've never heard of that before, but then I've never been a smoker either. Still, yeah, that's a lot of smoking he'd have to have been doing to need 3 freaking kilos...
