My body wears a suit but my face wears jeans

One of the memes I picked up on a few weeks ago was the Personal Style Statement. Or words to that effect.

What I wear tends to be governed by its ability to meet the following tests:

1. Ability to flee from a falling building

This used to be 'run for a bus' but my paranoia has increased. I cycle to the station every day, so I like wearing things you ( Read more... )

I find this fascinating, as ever, because there is very little scope for power dressing for men. Basically it comes down to wearing or not wearing a suit. And if you do wear a suit, two piece or three? Tie or not ( ... )

Ah, the height thing. That certainly isn't going for me, and there's not much I can do about it.

No one wears a suit at work, with the exception of the occasional visitor from another office. You will very occasionally see a man in what I think is termed a sports jacket. My own boss is dressing identically to his boss at the moment, right down to the style of jacket.

At the sales event I went to, the senior managers all went on stage and the only woman in a suit was an older slightly round lady wearing a trouser suit. It didn't work but I could see exactly why she might go for it.

Mind you the real talent is adopting a loud and urgent speaking voice.

I want to do this meme! Where did you get it? And I, too, am fascinated by how people choose to dress, how they fit into their community with clothing or not, whether they feel that clothes are a form of self-expression, and especially what clothing says about the person that she/he did not consciously intend.

I know what you mean about the right store or catalog. Are you Canadian? I forget. I used to get great stuff at Coldwater Creek but they changed their style. It's not my imagination; I have things from there that they would never carry now. Now it's all boxy jackets, tops that are meant to be snazzy but are also a bit boring, everything extremely devoid of reference to any other era or style than that of middle aged ladies. But I get a lot of clothes - expensive - at Soft Surroundings, which specializes now in hip-covering, artistic or historical or ethnic flavored, individualistic clothes.

Hah! I'm British. Those store names sound intriguing.

I know what you mean. In reality, I'm middle aged. But I want to send out messages about being insightful/commanding/youthful/energetic.

Heh.
