My boyfriend is a musician and a singer, and athough he really wants to start T, he's super worried about what it will do to his voice. Right now he has a beautiful singing voice, but, of course, when he starts T  it will be one of the first things that change. He's afraid he will have to relearn everything about how to sing. Anybody have any ( Read more... )

Most people are able to regain their abilities post-t. It is a relearning process. For some, like me, it's been over a year and I have nothing in comparison to what I had pre-t, which I'm sad about but it was the sacrifice I had made. Others have no problems at all. He'd have to practice daily and know that he might not get everything he wants. It's hard to say what will happen.

no one can tell him what will happen to his voice---i've known many folks who sing beautifuly after t----they do have to relearn to sing , and i've also known people (one very tallented musician in particular) who choose to not go on t because he was unwilling to risk changing his voice

I don't really have any advice, but the following is an interesting interview about the same with Lucas Silveira of the Cliks.

My husband's FTM and he's not a singer, but I am so I was really interested in this topic before he transitioned (8 years ago). I read a lot about guys who lost their abilities but, since then, I've been in a choir with four FTM's who all had gorgeous post-transition voices. Solo quality if they were soloists before and comparable if not. But I think the key for each of them was that they sang all the way through their transitions - they always joke about having sung every part in the choir since they started out as Sopranos and are now all Baritones, well, one's a Tenor but he's on T gel and transitioned more slowly at first so his voice may still be dropping. Anyway, your BF should maybe talk to a vocal coach about specifics but I know it's definitely possible to get through it and come out a great musician on the other side. - Erica
