Binding

Ok, so I know people have posted similar questions regarding advice on binding, but I have a very specific question.  My partner has a binder from undergear (very common binder) but he is very large chested, and has a very broad shoulders.  The binder is not giving the results desired, which is unfortuneate because it was purchased due to the ( Read more... )

my mom made my husband his binder... she made a normal tank-top out of a thick, non-stretchy material and cut up both sides... she then put in eye holes and laced it with shoe laces. This way my hubby was able to get it super tight at his chest level without it being quite so tight over his abdomen (and diaphragm, so it was easier to breathe).

it was VERY hot in the summer, but it worked wonders.

NOTE: he is quite broad chested for his height and had B's... not sure how it would work on C's and up... but if you know someone with a sewing machine, it may be worth dropping $20 on materials and give it a shot.

My partner's mom is really awesome about making things (She made my partner a Strongbad face mask for Halloween-it was awesome and she did it with out a pattern!). I think the question would be how comfortable my partner would be with asking for this specific request...But its definitely worth thinking about (go your mom by the way).

I think you meant Underworks. =)

I myself am purchasing one... it will reach me tomorrow I think. =D But what you say really worries me, because I am small chested but have broad shoulders. If it's not working for your partner, I'm a bit worried about myself LoL.

But I do agree with aki_no_kaze. Just give it a shot. =)

Yes, I did mean underworks (I always want to call it undergear-I'm terrible with names).

I wouldn't be to worried if I were you, it might be fine, I think it just depends, because like I said, I have a friend that had nothing but success (I think because there was a difference in body shape and chest size-who knows...). But thank god for return policies-right?

Also heads up that both of them had with the binder from underworks- it looks like it doesn't work until you put a shirt over it. FYI.

LoL that's alright. Your point about putting a shirt over it is noted. Thanks. =)

ditto. my boy has one of theirs and always wears at least two shirts to smooth it out.

I used the underworks binders - started with the one that snaps in the front, then after about 6 months I switched to the closed-front one for more compression. I'm not broad shouldered, but I was big chested - 44DD when I started binding. I wore a sports bra under the binder to help get the compression started (and to keep my nipples from being irritated by the binder), then put a men's tank top on over that, *then* the binder, then a white t-shirt, then whatever shirt I was wearing, in either a 2x or 3x. Baggy was the key. 44DDs were awfully hard to hide, and most of the time, looking in the mirror, *I* could still see them, but it was the best I could do until I had surgery. I eventually dropped the tank top between the sports bra and binder, but most of the time still wore a t-shirt between the binder and whatever other shirt I wore (even if it was another t-shirt). That was no fun in the summertime, let me tell you! Sometimes you just gotta make do with what you've got, you know? Having top surgery was the best possible thing for ( ... )
