* its a human embryo, meaning the start of a human life * many doctors oppose it * the negatives out weigh the positives * it isnt proven to totally work, not one human patient has been treated by embryonic stem cells. * the most progress that has been made is in adult stem cell and blood cell research.
I'm not whole heartedly behind 71, because I think it's way too much money. But to write off embryonic stem cell research without exploring it's options would be just as bad.
Just because it hasn't been successful yet doesn't mean it might not be the case later.
It hasn't been tested on humans yet because the Bush administration won't allow it.
There have been limits imposed on stem cell research for the past four years, so they have no been able to fully test the methods.
They have found the genes for certain diseases, but cannot do the necessary research with the limits that are currently imposed on stem cell research.
The positives might outweigh the negatives, but we won't know until those limits are lifted.
Many doctors do oppose it, but that doesn't make it wrong. Many doctors used to oppose genetic research, and look where it got us. We now have chemo therapy that targets specfic genes and cells. We have drugs that target and repair certain genes, ect.
