Dear writer,
Thank you so much for writing for me--I just realized that this had been left locked. There's absolutely no excuse, I'm so sorry. All of the below is optional and 100% suggestions. I think that everything is largely just expanding on the tropes and pairings picked, but if you want more information, it's below.
For any of the tropes, I love tropes played straight, tropes inverted or subverted. I've included my thoughts below on my fandoms and tropes. You definitely can choose to do one or do several! No limitations there. Additionally, here are some general things that I like and don’t like.

-Angst (ideally ending in a HEA)
-Having dysfunctional relationships
-Enemies being forced (either directly or by circumstances) to work together
-Enemies to lovers
-Opposites attracting or coming to understand each other
-Marriages of convenience, fake dating, etc.

Hikaru no Go
Shindou Hikaru/Touya Akira
I love everything about Hikaru no Go and Hikaru and Akira. I love how much history they’ve shared and how obsessed they are with each other and go. I love how they (mis)communicate but also are there for each other when they really need the other one. I love how they’re each a champion for the other and they care so freaking much about each other.
I’ve nominated the following tropes:
-Pining - Mutual Pining
-Dating Tropes - Dating by Letter/Email but Don’t Know Each Other’s Real Names
-Fake/Pretend Relationship - To Protect Character’s Reputation
- Misunderstandings - Everyone Thinks They’re Together
- Flirtation - Arguing as flirting
- Under the Influence - Lightweight character gets drunk
I love all of these tropes and think that any of them would be a lot of fun with Akira and Hikaru. I definitely see pining as a big thing for them-they’re communicate constantly about their feelings about go, but both tend to hind behind go instead of addressing their feelings (about each other).
I also love the idea of them connecting romantically online-maybe on a go forum? Or some other type of online situation where they’re interacting and just completely connecting (and then both of them are feeling guilty because they also have feelings for the other in real life).
Fake/pretend relationships are also great-I have this vision of some rumor going out about either Akira or Hikaru and the other character is like…I know the perfect solution! We will pretend to have been dating to definitely prove that such thing didn’t happen. Or someone assumes that they’re dating (also feeding into the Misunderstandings trope) and if they deny it, it’ll look worse (or like one of the characters dumped the other one), so they pretend to date to save face. And then…hijinks!
Flirtation - Arguing as flirting feels like a reality for Akira and Hikaru. Do they know how to flirt in any other way? Especially when it comes to arguing about go?
Lastly, I can absolutely see either Akira or Hikaru getting drunk and totally handsy or being exceptionally obvious about their feelings leading to a revelation on the non-drunk person’s part. Then comes the dilemma-what do they do about it in the cold light of day?
The Queen’s Thief
Attolia | Irene / Eugenides
I love this book series so much, especially the build up between Eugenides and Attolia. They are such an intriguing couple-the glimpses that we get of them together kill me. I love their banter and the many layers of conversation that they seem to be having at any one time. They’re such human and complicated characters and I would love to see more of them. I love how much they make my heart ache and how they’re so angsty and so satisfying as a couple all the time. ,
I’ve nominated the following tropes:
-Captivity - Kidnapped and used as leverage against the other character
-Enemies Forced to Work Together - Against a Common Enemy
-Flirting - Arguing as flirting
-Hurt/Comfort - Character being protected isn’t used to being cared about
-Self Sacrifice - of Reptuation
-Trauma - Nightmares from PTSD
I think that all of these tropes would work so well for Attolia and Gen. For Captivity - Kidnapped and used as leverage against the other character, I imagine that there are a lot of people out there that do not wish Gen or the country of Attolia well. If he were to get kidnapped, to what extent would Attolia go to get him back (as Gen is also mavericking his way to freedom). Also, feel free to explore canon divergence with this-maybe Gen or Attolia gets kidnapped before they’re married but after they’re both aware of their feelings for each other.
Although they are no longer current enemies, what if the events of The Queen of Attolia had gone differently and they were still enemies, having to come together to fight off the Medes or the Continental Powers? Or, on a smaller level, what if they had a longer fight and finally reconciled when they needed to address a common enemy?
As for flirting-I would love to see the two of them having more of their usual banter and manner of flirting, using hidden barbs and inside jokes that leave the rest of the court confused and completely on the outside. Or a more intimate moment as they argue and flirt together.
Hurt/Comfort - Character being protected isn’t used to being cared about-this fits so well for both of them! They both care so much about each other, but don’t want to take time to care for themselves, so I would love to see one character providing comfort and surprising the other and the person on the receiving end just being in awe of the love directed their way.
Self-Sacrifice - of Reputation. This is definitely a great trope for both Attolia and Gen-so much of their ability to rule depends on their individual reputations. What happens when that is in conflict with something that they need to do to protect or save the other?
Trauma - Nightmares from PTSD. We know that Gen has nightmares-I would really like to see how Attolia handles and helps during these nightmares. Conversely, what happens when Attolia has nightmares maybe about what she did to Gen or Relius or the loss of her brother? How does Gen comfort her?
Swordspoint Series - Ellen Kushner
Alec Campion/Richard St. Vier
I love how completely different these two are and how they’re so completely into each other. Alec who is finicky, loud-mouthed, rude, scathing but also so loyal and in love with Richard. Richard is mellow, willing to kill at a moment’s notice, honorable and also so loyal and in love with Alec. I want to see more of their adventures and relationship!
I nominated the following tropes:
-Flirting - Arguing as flirting
-Grand Romantic Gesture - Breaking Moral Principle as Romantic Gesture
-Hurt/Comfort - Character being protected isn’t used to being cared about
-Self-Sacrifice - of Reputation
Flirting - Arguing as flirting-Alec is definitely of the variety to use arguing as flirting-I would love to see him flirting with Richard, arguing with him, and maybe at the beginning of their relationship, Richard being confused, or after they’ve been together for a while, appreciating and loving it for what it is.
Grand Romantic Gesture - Breaking Moral Principle as Romantic Gesture-I think that this trope could apply to either Alec or Richard. What happens if one of them needs to do something that they find morally questionable (like Alec having to take on additional noble roles or Richard having to kill someone that he’s not supposed to or doesn’t want to) but they do it anyways to save the other?
Hurt/Comfort - Character being protected isn’t used to being cared about-this applies to both of them as we don’t’ see them being over demonstrative with their words. What are they like in their intimate unguarded moments? Especially after one of them has been injured?
Self-Sacrifice - of Reputation-This also ties into Grand Romantic Gesture-what would Alec or Richard do to keep the other safe or happy?
Original Ships Between Men
Arrogant Warrior Prince/Sensible Ex-Soldier Capable of Fighting Him to a Draw
Civilian Secretly a Superhero/Supervillain
Injured Hero/Villain Who Saves His Life
King Who Fought in the War/Prince of Enemy Country He's Marrying to Seal the Peace Treaty
Lonely Prince/His Dearest Friend Who Was Thought Dead in the War Male
Human Spaceship Captain/Male Alien Second-In-Command
Mob Boss/Doctor Forced to Work For Him
Retired Supervillain/Supervillain Who Keeps Seeking Him Out Because He Misses Him
Straightforward Warrior King/Politically Astute Foreign Prince Sent to Him As Tribute
Ok, so I did nominate a lot of ships here. Sorry! They just sounded so interesting, I couldn’t help myself! I love the dynamics and possibilities encompassed in the little that we know from the description. I love power imbalances, love overriding moral principles (love overcoming all!), antagonistic relationship turned into something more, all-encompassing loyalty even in the face of the ridiculous and opposites attracting.
I nominated the following tropes:
-Captivity - Kidnapped and used as leverage against the other character
-Captivity - Surrender to enemy in exchange for the other's safety
-Character A Nonverbally Expresses Their Affection for Character B Who is Oblivious
-Enemies Forced To Work Together - Against a Common Enemy
-Fake/Pretend Relationship - To Protect Character's Reputation
-Falling for the Enemy - attempt at manipulation leads to feelings
-Dating Tropes - Dating by Letter/Email but Don’t Know Each Other’s Real Names
-Flirting - Arguing as flirting
-Grand Romantic Gesture - Breaking Moral Principle as Romantic Gesture
-Hurt/Comfort - Character being protected isn't used to being cared about
-Identity Porn - Character unaware their love interest is also a superhero/villain
-Marriage of Convenience - for protection
-Morality Exploration - Violating Moral Principles For A Loved One
-Secret Revealed - Character is less powerful/more vulnerable than assumed
-Trauma - Nightmares from PTSD
I have nominated a lot of tropes as well (double apologies!)-I think that all of these tropes are amazing, tropes of my heart, and would love to see them explored for the pairings above.
A lot of these pairings start out in two people being on opposites sides (of a conflict, of a moral principle), I love exploring how people can connect despite being on opposite sides (or maybe because of it)? Feel free to use one trope or a few as inspiration!
For the pairings which feature characters who were or are very close together, I love looking at how loyalty and closeness plays into some of the tropes above.
Thank you so much!
